hawthorn-vs-geelongThe weekly punt as promised finished in the black at the end of the home and away season but things are just hotting up and the finals are upon us. And what way to make it even more exciting than placing some winning bets for September. The weekly punt will hold your hand through this month.

Two games look really good value for the first week, so focus your yearly earnings on these. The other good value is Sportsbet offering money back on all bets up to $100 if team loses by 18 points or less in first week of the finals . Take all the favourites and should they lose, it will not be more than three goals.

Hawthorn up until not long ago was the outright premiership faovurite, but it appears that the punters are getting more confident that the Geelong will take their fourth flag in seven years. Fair enough, the Hawks have not been in the best form but they still did finish on top of the ladder with the best attack and percentage. In other words they have probably cruised to the first finish line but expect them to ramp it up for their first final against the Swans.

It is an odd occurrence that the last year’s grand finalist meet in consecutive weeks in such a manner, but one thing needs to noted. The Hawks beat the Swans twice this year and you would expect not only a similar result but a bigger margin than the 12 points from the ANZ match last week with Hawthorn’s home-ground advantage. The Hawks’ line is at -10.5 with Betstar who are offering the best odds at $1.93, and given the Swans have not beaten a betting line in their last five matches the Hawks are the only thing you should be betting on.

There has been a lot of talk about Fremantle having to play at Simonds Stadium this week, maybe because last time they played the Cats there earlier in the year they were beaten comprehensively by seven goals. No only that, but they were basically out-tackled and out-Fremantled. Fremantle did rest nearly a dozen players last week so does that mean they will be fresher than the Cats for the first final? At this point of the season it does not matter, it is all about playing on sheer willpower and at your best. The Cats best is as good as anybody’s and Fremantle cannot match that, especially with key players out. Betstar will again give you the best line and odds, Geelong on the -18.5 line at $1.95 is superb value.
