The Anzac Day Eve game looms large as a crucial fixture for both clubs. It has been a rough start to the year for Richmond. The Tigers and Dees have a 110 year history in the competition together with Melbourne an original breakaway 1896 team and Richmond joining the competition just twelve years later. The Tigers have eleven flags but Melbourne pip them on twelve.
They met each other in the 1940 Grand Final where the Tigers had beaten the Dees previously in the semi-final but were comprehensively beaten in the rematch. This was the first and last time they’ve played in a granny together.
