Australian Football League Season update

Port Adelaide are up and about in the early rounds of the 2020 with four wins and one loss. The team has been superb as they look t win their first premiership 2004.

It would be a great achievement if the team from Adelaide could bring the trophy home after a long wait. However, it’s still very early days in the season, so they will have to maintain this early season form.

Not only have Port Adelaide won four of their five matches, they have been one of the highest scoring teams in the league. They defeated the Gold Coast Suns in the opening match of the season, then followed that up with a comfortable victory over bottom side Adelaide Crows. Freemantle were next on the hit list before Ken Hinkley’s disposed of the West Coast Eagles.

They suffered their first loss of the season last week to the Brisbane Lions 85-48. Brisbane are another one of the highest scoring teams this season and flexed their muscles in the win over the Power.

Stats play a key part in the Australian Football League, with Charlie Dixon currently leading the Coleman Medal with 11 goals along with Tom Hawkins, Charlie Cameron and Tom Papley.

Papley’s 11 goals is a good return coming from an mid-table team like the Sydney Swans, who have won two and lost two matches so far this season.

Sticking with the league leaders is Justin Westhoff, who has been a key player for Port Adelaide. He has kicked seven goals this season and his relationship on the field with Dixon has been a key part in the success of the team.

At the bottom of the ladder are the Adelaide Crows and Freemantle, with just one win between them. Both have struggled to stop opponents from scoring, however for Adelaide, they also haven’t managed to score anywhere enough goals be competitive.

For Fremantle, they finally got their first win on the board for the 2020 season against the Crows last weekend.

Odds for Grand Final success

With only a handful of matches gone so far this season, Port Adelaide have impressed in all areas of the field and they are among the favourites to win the flag. Collingwood are among the favourites despite sitting 10th on the ladder.

Port Adelaide are another one of the favourites after their super start, with Richmond and Greater Western Sydney also in the mix despite indifferent starts to the season. However, the reigning premiers Richmond know exactly what it takes to win the Grand Final and should only improve as the season goes on.

Brisbane can’t be counted out as they have made a good start to the season and their odds have shortened to be Grand Final winner.

All eyes though are on Port Adelaide, who have seen their odds slashed to land the main prize at the end of the season.
