The Sydney Swans’ Logan McDonald has been named the Round 12 NAB Rising Star nominee.

McDonald kicked three goals and two behinds in the Sydney Swan’s 12-point win over reigning premiers Melbourne.

His third goal in the fourth quarter – a snap from 40-metres out – reduced Melbourne’s lead to just one point and set up the come-from-behind win.

The 20-year-old also had 16 disposals, six contested possessions, five marks and three inside 50s.

In the post-match press conference, Senior Coach John Longmire praised McDonald and his forward-line peers for stepping up in the absence of Lance Franklin.

“Sam (Reid) played well as an experienced player in our forward line. Logan (McDonald) was able to do it, we had a bit of an even spread there,” Longmire said.

“Lance (Franklin) clearly makes a difference to us, but you have to find a way without the good players sometimes and we were able to do that tonight.”

McDonald made his debut in the opening round of the 2021 season against the Brisbane Lions, where he kicked three goals.

The key forward was drafted from Perth Football Club with the fourth selection in the 2020 NAB AFL National Draft.
