Walsh, who has previously held the same role at Collingwood and North Melbourne, had only been in the position for a few months after being appointed in the post-season of 2022. This departure means that St Kilda will have to find a new head of football on the eve of a new season led by senior coach Ross Lyon. The club recently appointed Stephen Silvagni as list manager and Lenny Hayes and Robert Harvey as assistant coaches for the 2023 season. Walsh has a successful track record as a football boss at North Melbourne and Collingwood, and has been involved in premierships at North and Collingwood, and club reviews at Collingwood, Carlton and North Melbourne.
