Lisa Webb, former assistant coach of the Western Bulldogs, is moving on to her next challenge, the club announced this morning. She has accepted the position of AFLW head coach at the Fremantle Football Club.
Webb joined the Bulldogs in season seven, bringing with her over a decade of coaching experience. Before her time at the Kennel, she served as an assistant coach for Fremantle’s AFLW team and even played six games for the Dockers in 2018.
When discussing her departure from the Bulldogs, Webb said, “Leaving the Bulldogs was a difficult decision, but the opportunity to be a head coach is something I’ve been striving for. I developed a strong bond with the players and coaching staff during my time at the Kennel, but the chance to work with a group I’m already familiar with was too good to pass up.”
Webb also expressed her gratitude towards the head coach, Nathan Burke, for his role in her development as a coach. “I’ve learned so much from Burke and I’m grateful for the opportunities he gave me. The Bulldogs are in great hands under his leadership.”
Bulldogs’ Executive Director of Football, Chris Grant, had mixed emotions about Webb’s departure. He said, “While it’s disappointing to see Lisa go, we’re proud of the part we played in her development as a senior coach. Our commitment to providing opportunities for women in coaching has been demonstrated by the fact that three of our former AFLW assistants have now moved on to become head coaches.”
The Western Bulldogs will soon begin their search for a new AFLW assistant coach to take Webb’s place.
