On day one of the 2023 AFLW Sign and Trade Period, the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos announced the acquisition of key forward Kate Shierlaw, following her impressive Season 7 campaign with St Kilda, where she kicked 13 goals, won her first Best and Fairest award, and secured a spot in the All-Australian squad. Rhys Harwood, North Melbourne’s AFLW football performance and talent manager, expressed the club’s excitement over signing Shierlaw, stating that she brings a great combination of athletic ability and aerial presence that will enhance their forward system. He also praised her versatility, having demonstrated the capacity to play in all three zones. Furthermore, he emphasized her impressive personal qualities, noting her potential to inspire high standards at the club. Shierlaw began her AFLW career at Carlton in 2017 before joining St Kilda as an expansion signing in 2020, accumulating 44 games across the two clubs. North Melbourne secured her services through a three-way deal involving St Kilda and Collingwood, which saw Grace Campbell, a North Melbourne midfielder, join Collingwood alongside pick 15 in the upcoming AFLW Season 8 Supplementary Draft. Campbell played 18 games over three seasons at North Melbourne, and Harwood wished her the best for her next chapter with Collingwood while thanking her for her contributions to the club.
