Key defender Lewis Young has signed a three-year contract extension, committing himself to the Navy Blues until 2026.

Young joined Carlton at the end of 2021 after a three-way trade with the Western Bulldogs and West Coast Eagles. He made his debut for the club in Round 3 of the 2022 season and has since become an integral part of Carlton’s backline.

In his 19 games for Carlton, Young has shown his versatility and impressive form. He took on the responsibility of being the club’s No.1 lock down defender and led the side in intercept marks. In Round 22 against the reigning premiers Melbourne, Young broke the record for most spoils in a game with 24, displaying the growth he experienced throughout his maiden year with the club.

Carlton Head of List Management, Nick Austin, was thrilled with Young’s performance in his first season and is excited to see him grow and develop over the next few years. He praised Young’s resilience and ability to step up when needed, adding much-needed depth to the backline.

“Lewis typifies our philosophy of being a good teammate, both on and off the field. We believe he has a lot of growth still ahead of him and we can’t wait to see his game grow and develop over the next few years,” said Austin.

The Carlton Football Club is happy to have Lewis Young on board for three more years, and fans are sure to be excited to see what he brings to the table in the coming seasons.
