Rising Star nominee of Round 11, Jye Amiss, of the Fremantle Dockers, continues his impressive form in the Australian Football League (AFL).
The 19-year-old East Perth native emerged as the standout player in Fremantle’s close-fought victory against Melbourne, contributing a game-best three goals in the seven-point win. Additionally, Amiss showed his prowess by registering 14 disposals with an impressive 86 per cent efficiency. His outstanding performance also saw him tally three tackles, six score involvements, and three inside 50s at the iconic MCG.
At 196cm, Amiss is a towering presence in the forward line. His prolific scoring, with 19 goals from 10 games this season, sees him lead the Dockers’ goal tally, outpacing teammates Lachie Schultz and Michael Walters.
His average contribution per game is nothing short of remarkable – 1.9 goals, two marks inside 50, 3.7 marks, and 4.9 score involvements. These stats underline his importance in Fremantle’s current four-game winning streak and their mid-season rally.
Since his Round Eight 2022 debut against North Melbourne, where he scored two goals and recorded nine disposals, Amiss has been a consistent performer. Although an injury sidelined him during the 2022 season, he made a triumphant return in the Elimination Final against the Western Bulldogs, kicking two critical goals and turning the game in Fremantle’s favour.
Amiss, the eighth pick in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft, had an outstanding record at East Perth in the WAFL, kicking 51 goals in 15 colts games in 2021. The Busselton native, who commuted 220km southwest of Perth, started his journey in community football with the Busselton Magpies and Towns Junior Football Club. His success story serves as an inspiration to aspiring footballers across the nation, proving that dedication and hard work can pave the way to the top echelons of AFL.
