Nick Riewoldt, the former St Kilda captain and media star, was nominated for induction into the AFL Hall of Fame, but his absence from the ceremony sparked attention. This happened because he is currently living in Texas, USA, with his American wife and their children. Riewoldt had moved to the US in late 2022 after retiring from the AFL media in Australia and his children started at a local primary school in Houston in October. He is also doing some casual work with the American sports media giant ESPN and appeared as a surprise guest on its Super Bowl coverage in 2023. The AFL Commission chair Richard Goyder confirmed that Riewoldt will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2024 upon his return12.

Three modern-day AFL champions were inducted into the Hall of Fame on Tuesday night: Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell, and Geelong duo Jimmy Bartel and Corey Enright. Sam Mitchell, who played 329 games across 15 seasons with Hawthorn and West Coast, retired at the end of 2017. He served as an assistant coach during West Coast’s 2018 premiership season and was appointed as Hawthorn’s coach from the 2023 season3.

Jimmy Bartel, a three-time Geelong premiership player and respected media analyst, ended his playing career in 2016. Bartel is known for his extraordinary performances in Geelong’s 2007, 2009, and 2011 grand finals, and for winning the 2007 Brownlow medal and the Norm Smith Medal in 2011. He finished his career with 305 games and 202 goals4.

Corey Enright, a key player in Geelong’s 2007, 2009, and 2011 premierships, was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, I could not find more specific information on Enright’s recent activities or achievements.

Finally, the AFL Commission decided to remove legend Barry Cable from the Hall of Fame following his conviction for sexually abusing a girl at the height of his playing career. Please let me know if there is any other information you would like me to find.
