Cam McCarthy, a former AFL player, has died at the age of 29. Emergency services were called to Lake Coogee in Perth’s south at approximately 6:15 pm on Thursday.

Upon arrival, they found McCarthy deceased.

The police have stated that the death is being treated as non-suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

McCarthy was drafted from South Fremantle with the 14th pick in 2013. He began his AFL career at Greater Western Sydney, playing 21 games, before moving to Fremantle where he played 49 games. McCarthy was known for leading Fremantle’s goal-scoring in 2017. He left Fremantle in late 2020 after being informed he would not be offered a contract for the following season and returned to play at South Fremantle for two more seasons. He retired after playing 10 league games.
