The AFL has announced a record-breaking season for both club memberships and game attendance in 2024, showcasing the incredible passion Australians have for footy. AFL CEO Andrew Dillon praised the dedication of fans, highlighting their impact on the sport’s growing success.

“Footy fans are the greatest in the world. They’ve not only turned up in record numbers to games this season but have cemented their support by becoming members in record numbers,” Dillon said. He also acknowledged the hard work of all 18 clubs in fostering this enthusiasm and commitment.

Dillon expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the record-breaking season. “On behalf of the AFL, I’d like to thank all club members and every fan who attended a game this year. Your loyalty and commitment are the cornerstones of our great game.”

The 2024 season saw three clubs – Collingwood, Carlton, and West Coast – surpass the 100,000 member mark, with Carlton reaching this milestone for the first time, while Collingwood and West Coast continue to lead in membership numbers.

Additionally, 13 clubs achieved all-time membership records, including Collingwood, Carlton, Geelong, and Hawthorn, among others. Eight clubs also experienced significant membership growth of over 10%, with Brisbane (15.7%) and Sydney (12.9%) leading the way.

In terms of attendance, the 2024 Toyota Premiership Home and Away season set a new all-time record, with over 7.75 million fans attending matches. The average crowd per round was also up from last year, rising to 323,178.

As Dillon noted, there’s plenty to look forward to with the AFL finals, AFLW season, and community footy finals just around the corner.
