Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has admitted there is still no clear timeline for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s return to the AFL side, calling the situation “rubbery” and full of unknowns.
Ugle-Hagan, the 2020 number one draft pick, has not played a game in 2025 and has been absent from full training as he manages personal matters. Though he remains contracted until the end of 2026, questions about his long-term commitment have begun to surface.
Beveridge stressed that the club is giving Ugle-Hagan the space he needs while offering support, but acknowledged that clarity around his return is still lacking. The coach noted that updates on the young forward’s whereabouts often come from members of the public, a reflection of the intense attention high-profile players receive.
He also spoke about Ugle-Hagan’s growth, suggesting that like many emerging players, he is still finding his feet in terms of mental resilience and maturity. The club understands that the development of young talent isn’t always linear, and that patience is required.
While the Bulldogs are hopeful he will return in time, Beveridge admitted that the decision will ultimately come down to what’s best for Ugle-Hagan and the club moving forward.
For now, the club continues to focus on supporting him behind the scenes, keeping the door open for a return when he feels ready.
