Geelong has secured the services of rising Irish talent Oisín Mullin for another two years, with the versatile defender committing to the Cats until at least the end of the 2027 season.
This extension marks an important milestone in Mullin’s AFL journey, which has already been defined by determination, adaptability, and athletic brilliance. Since transitioning from Gaelic football to Australian Rules, Mullin has made an impressive impact in a relatively short time.
Before making the leap to the AFL, Mullin had already established himself as one of Ireland’s brightest sporting prospects. At just 21, he had played in two All-Ireland finals and was awarded both GAA All Star honours and the coveted Young Footballer of the Year title in 2020 — a clear sign of his elite potential.
Recognising that talent early, Geelong signed Mullin in October 2021 as a Category B rookie. He officially made the move from Ireland at the end of 2022, embracing the challenges of a new code, country, and lifestyle.
Fast forward to Round 9, 2023, and Mullin made his AFL debut. That year, he featured in six games, giving Cats fans a glimpse of his explosive speed and defensive versatility. In 2024, he built on that foundation, playing 12 games — including both of Geelong’s finals appearances — and proving himself as a valuable contributor to the club’s backline.
With this new contract locked in, Mullin now has the platform to continue his growth in the game. His commitment to Geelong not only reflects the club’s belief in his long-term potential, but also highlights Mullin’s determination to carve out a lasting AFL career.
As the Cats look to the future, Mullin’s story stands as one of ambition, adaptation, and perseverance — and it’s only just getting started.
