So just how stuffed is your tipping after AFL Round 12? Totally? Thought so.
The second of the bye rounds resulted in lots of upsets and some of the most thrilling matches of the year to date.
The biggest shock of the weekend was Carlton’s nail-biting one-point win over GWS at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Arguably the best win of Brendon Bolton’s tenure, the Blues were too disciplined for the more fancied Giants. Matthew Kreuzer did his All Australian chances no harm and Toby Greene will need extra goal-kicking sessions this week after kicking 0.5.
The Queen’s Birthday blockbuster lived up to its billing, with Melbourne and Collingwood producing one of the games of the season. The Demons just remained within striking distance after a poor first half but stormed home in the second to win by four points. Jeremy Howe’s screamer was a clear highlight of an absolutely captivating match. (Don’t bring up the umpires with your Collingwood mates.)
Elsewhere, the Gold Coast Suns continued to slowly build momentum after accounting for Hawthorn at the MCG, the Bulldogs and Saints’ inconsistent seasons continued with disappointing losses and the hapless Brisbane Lions finally secured their second win of the year with a big win over the Dockers. Ross the Rebuilder might need an emergency trip to Bunnings – the wheels look to be falling off for Fremantle.
