Collingwood Football Club has secured the future of one of its promising young players, Edward Allan, by signing him to a two-year contract extension. Allan was selected as a first-round pick in the 2022 draft and was initially contracted for two years, but the new deal will see him remain with the club until the end of the 2026 season.
The 18-year-old, who is the son of former Hawthorn premiership player Ben Allan, impressed with his athleticism and versatility during the pre-season. Standing at 194 cm, he has shown strong ball-winning abilities and endurance, which have made him an exciting prospect for the club’s future.
Despite sitting out the first half of the 2022 WAFL season due to injury, Allan managed to average 25 disposals in five appearances with the Claremont Colts. However, the club’s General Manager of Football, Graham Wright, emphasized that they will be taking a cautious approach with Allan’s development.
“Ed’s a high quality young man and we’re thrilled to extend his contract by two more years,” Wright said. “While he’s completed most of the pre-season, we’ll make sure we manage his development carefully, given he had some injury issues last year.”
