In the hours following Chris Fagan’s contract extension as senior coach at the Brisbane Lions, would anyone know about it if they weren’t looking?
There is no article about the contract extension on the Lions web site.
The club Twitter account has not posted about it.
There has not even been a press release from the club. There seems to have been one short statement released to Fox Sports and other hand-picked outlets.
The total of the attention given by the AFL to the contract extension of this senior coach, under a cloud over historical accusations of racism, is one single paragraph tacked on at the end of an AFL News article about the Lions club captain appointments:
Newly re-signed coach Fagan has been rewarded for sustained good results after guiding the Lions to four successive finals series, including two finals victories and a prelim berth in 2022.
And that’s it.
A strange way to go about it? Club dumping the news so it’s overshadowed by the captaincy announcement?
