Nathan Buckley is doing his best to prepare the baying faithful for a season where a premiership is, shall we say, unlikely.
The “quiet rebuild” of Collingwood continues apace and this means plenty of potential for Fantasy players if, as many predict, Buckley decides to play the proverbial kids. He’s certainly got enough of them up his sleeve.
The Woods still have some proven Fantasy guns on board – Pendlebury, Swan, Sidebottom – and added Levi Greenwood who was the buy of the year for anyone smart enough to get on him at the right time last season.
But for mine, its Collingwood’s youth brigade who will provide both points and cash.

GET THEM IN
Nathan Freeman (MID $174,000)
The forgotton man, the number 10 pick in the 2013 draft, Freeman missed all of last season with injury. But is training the proverbial house down and looks to be a big part of Buckley’s plans. Should rise in value and quickly.
Dane Swan (MID/FWD $531,000)
What kind of bizarre world have we come to when Dane Swan starts the season at that price, and with dual position status? Swan didn’t have a great year in 2014 but at that price and sitting as a FWD, you really have to.
NOT WITH A BARGEPOLE
Levi Greenwood (MID $576,000)
Greenwood was a surprise packet last year, racking up consistent tons, when the Roos turned to him to cover some injury holes. But he comes with a huge price tag this year for a guy with only one season of decent footy under his belt. Not from the get go.
Travis Cloke (FWD, $412,000)
Even at that relatively low price, it is hard to see Cloke delivering huge value this year. In a couple of games he’ll bring home a big total on the back of bag of goals, but I’d expect far more disappointing 50s and 60s. Don’t.
WORTH A PUNT
Jordan De Goey (MID $285,000)
One of those “ready to go” midfielders in the Ollie Wines mould. If he’s picked Round One, he’ll probably play every game, injury permitting. Is expensive for a rookie but will be worth it if he plays.
Travis Varcoe (DEF $357,000)
An intriguing prospect here. Varcoe can run through the midfield and is very attractively priced and his DEF status makes him attractive. Keep an eye on him during the NAB Palaver, could be an astute get.
