Probably requires some Stasi-like dobbing in though.

My dear mother had dealings with councils being a certifier for many years.
She said it was a tight contest between Charles Sturt and Tea Tree Gully who eas the most difficult to deal with.
Having lived in both, she is right.

Speaking of councils and bullshit. I have a council property next door that runs occasional programs that wraps around the back of my place. The idiots decided that they needed to build an $80k pergola (with out discussing with me) so that on the one day a week they have people there, they can smoke outside undercover.

Now, I have a very good understanding of the building regs regarding how high and how close they are allowed to build to my back fence. They put a high deck in and people were looking in and over my back fence. They also built it too close and too high as it dominated the outlook across the back.

I jumped over and measured it and then threatened to take them to VCAT for building an illegally high/ close pergola across the rear of my property. In the end they conceded that it was built outside the code and they had to get engineers and cranes on to cut the steel posts and lift the old/ lower it (all at the expense of ratepayers).

At the same time, my next door neighbour built a beautiful fence out the front of his house (without realising his permit had expired) and the council clapped an enforcement notice on him so he was forced to get the surveyor out again at his own cost ($500) to write him an amendment and reapply for the permit so he did not have to pull down his fence.

I have been dealing with idiots from City of Melboure who cannot turn a permit to occupy fast enough to allow us to have a permit for works. The fine is $2000 for putting a few bollard up on a footpath. City of Yarra charged me $600 to put 4 removable bollards on the footpath to create a small exclusion zone for public protection for small scale works.

The bureaucracy is ridiculous!

Ah, wheelie bin wars! My neighbour is attempting to see if they can leave it out for a full week on my nature strip. My response has been to deliberately put the wrong coloured bin out early to confuse them.

That's utter garbage. Certainly the pergola issue. How and why a council flouts its own planning laws is just infuriating.

My old neighbour used to use my bin. As he was an alcoholic, I'd move his bin. It was amusing watching him try to find it.
