sell the vision to opposition targets

This “vision” stuff is overplayed imo.

The vision of every club is “if you come here you’ll have a better chance of a flag and here’s how you’ll be guaranteed a game each week in your preferred position”.

Ultimately the “selling” comes down to credibility. So Battle can look at the Hawks and go “yeah I could see how a flag could be closer than the Saints because they’re performing again and they have money and their club has a history of success”.

Whereas the only way we have credibility is if we’re doing great on field. There’s no credible “vision” without that.

I agree it feels distasteful to pay mercenaries. I’d actually rather we pay Nas great money than TDK. But if we want to get established players then money if our only option.

Was just about to post this. Behind-the-scenes vid up on the official Saints website on developing our 1-3 year players.

Nice detail was to hear O'Connell and McLennan praise Phillipou for using his recovery time to work on his off-track relationships around the club.

Love the stuff with Lenny talking through replay footage with Boxhall too.

My son went out on the town with a few GWS players in the preseason and was talking about the Saints. One thing that come up was Phillipou he was described as a different loose unit, what that means is anyones guess. But to hear the lads talking about Pou having to work on relationships within the club, shows it has obviously been acknowledged by Pou and the group and he is making an effort which is great.

do you know how long it's been since we've landed someone of pou's quality? Finding a bonafide loose unit these days is nigh on impossible

Here’s us complaining we didn’t get a decent write up
This article was a lot more compelling before we'd been thrashed by 10 goals.

I know we have to publicly pitch the club to attract new recruits, but it's hard to see the substance in it when there's a real lack of intensity from senior players in a first up game.

Love Josh's writing, though. Great read.

Have to agree with Cornes on First Up on the AFL app - I too am sick of hearing about making the finals 2023, it’s becoming the new “we thumped Richmond in their 2017 Premiership year so we’re right there!”
