In the long run trades for older stars aren't that good for example:

Nathan Thompson for pick 10 plus some other trades for Jordan Lewis (we clearly won that one)
    Schwass for Shannon Grant

In general my feeling is after five or six years people will be forget about the star and focusing on the emarging talent.

So in five uears time footy fans wil be saying Shaun who and Hawks fans will be wondering why we don't have any decent youngsters coming through to support Buddy and Roughy in the later years ie 27-30.

If we a can't win another flag in the next three years then this trade and Gibson as well will proving to be a disaster and we languish as also rans in the latter years of the decade.
    Thankyou,

I have no doubt that Burgoyne is a very clever and deft player. However, I doubt that he'll last that long with his knee issues so 4 seasons would be a very good outcome.

I get really uncomfortable with trading for older players. I remember the late 90's early 00's and trading good picks for ruckman after ruckman, O'Farrell, Salmon, Rehn & Everett. Two were very good but:

Barnard for Slamon a five year player was the best trade
    pick 4 & 36 for O'Farrell for a 13 game player mega disaster
pick 12 (that was ultimately used on S Burgoyne how ironic!) for Rehn who lasted 33 games!
pick 6 & 22 for a four year player in Everritt was steep but some value

We lost a generation of good players trying to get a decent ruckman and all of these trades really weakened the teams 2000-6.
