Heck, just on this board we have a list of eligible kids from Crows players that's updated when they are born
Only when said births are reported online. I can't guarantee that the list is 100% complete. There have been multiple occasions where I have been made aware of unlisted progeny, years after their birth.

We've only tracked sons of Crows players, not SANFL players
Not having a go at the guy/s who track the kids, it's a good thread. But if it was so essential/ easy to track the kids of the pre 1991 eligible dads, someone on here would have done it.

(In fact, this board and the club started publicly tracking Max at around the same time. None of us know how long the club was tracking him quietly before then either.)

But mainly, not sure it matters that much if we (board or club) weren't tracking him before he became a decent prospect.

Actually, we do. They weren't tracking him at all. It's reported they didn't know.

Maybe the club should set up a recruiting department with paid staff whose job it is to be across this stuff!

Did we have Max's name on that list, or are we just as bad?
We (BigFooty Adelaide Board) don't even have a confirmed list of eligible fathers, let alone the ability to track all of their sons.

There was a list published long ago, which included Ross Gibbs. Then the AFL decided that Escort Cup games don't count, rendering Gibbs and (presumably) others ineligible. Then they introduced the Grandfather rule, which made a whole heap of other players eligible. I haven't seen any lists since that original.

AFL F/S fathers are relatively easy to track, because the club usually puts out a media release whenever one of our F/S eligible players has a kid. Tracking SANFL F/S fathers, where there are rarely (if ever) any media releases, is infinitely more difficult.

I think this is the most relevant point.

I'm yet to see anyone suggest a fantastic SA past prospect that we missed.

There's maybe half a dozen AFL standard players a year coming out of our state. If any had a famous SANFL father, are we seriously suggesting that somehow wouldn't come up.

Doesn't it matter from the sense that if we know about them, we can integrate them into our program as early as possible?
