Pretty good but the name that screams out to me is Langdon ... while Winder is an emergency. (Or even Naish?) As quoted elsewhere ... better the spud you know? Seems to be the MC motto.

As I said earlier, I would have liked to have seen Winder get an opportunity earlier but I don’t see the point in taking him to Geelong for a final-round thrashing.

Langdon survives because Waterman is out, Petch is unavailable and Rioli will spend time in the middle. Winder’s good WAFL form has come in the midfield, I’d rather let him try to build on that.

Yeah I've been asking this question about Gaff for a while now - only thing I can come up with is that they think they'll lose by less by playing a 75% Gaff over Naish or Winder. Otherwise it's just baffling.
Yeah a real quandary. Playing the high priced loyal servant whose best has very much past in the AFL or going back to a side that kicked 1.5 last week? Kinda no win either way.

What even is the point of a post like this

You don’t rate Waterman, fair enough, we get it.

Doesn’t mean you need to take every half opportunity to pot the bloke

On the back of a post that he may have had surgery isn’t really the time to have yet another crack.
NAh, I reckon he is just hopeful someone has found a cure for his own long term issue.

Gaff looks like he is flying.

This will show how much integrity Simpson has at MC. He is not close to warranting selection based on the last month. We can see it on the field and I am glad to have this more open as we have 2 more years of Gaff and he has value but not based on what he has been doing of late.

If Winder's papers are stamped already, no selection.
If undecided, definitely selected, IN THE MIDFIELD, for at least a good portion of game.
If it's decided he will be on the list next year, still definitely selected. Don't care if we get shellacked. Any experience is a positive.

And while I'm about, put Rotham on the wing in Gaff's spot.
Want to see what we've got.

I'd also select Winder ahead of Culley, who is coming off a hamstring.
Reward good WAFL form.

Edit; or select both and rest an old timer or 2

Expecting changes this week ...

In - Kelly , Culley ...... Rioli / Winder , B Wiilliams / J Williams .

Out - NicNat , Waterman , Gaff , Jones ,

Hope they play both B & J Williams a match race see who looks most promising.
Winder should play .

That goes for Naitanui as well.

Whenever I hear X senior player is playing through an injury I get triggered. It's just selfish. Chasing match payments and games on their career tally.

Absolutely no reason, none whatsoever why we would be carrying an injured player, let alone a senior one, through this shit show we call a season.

If Naitanui, Gaff, Shuey, Kelly, whoever else is injured... **** them off and give our depth a proper crack.

Yes, that means I'd rather see spuddy Williams or Jamo rucking on their own than Naitanui who's unfit.

Yeah NicNat and Gaff are on matchies

Or they’re competitors who don’t like sitting out. Or they feel like they’re letting the team down if they sit out.

What do you mean.. isn't everyone eligible for the match payment as part of the AFLPA?

It's not their sole income, they still have the coin from their contract of course, but do they not get the 5-7k on top per match?

I'd call playing injured in a dead rubber season that means nothing whilst your replacement rolls out and gets flogged for the Beagles as a bit selfish, yeah.

I believe minimum wage and rookie players get match payment, senior players over $400k are likely to get additional money for things like club F&B, AA, etc

I think Gaff, NicNat and the crew you mention would get a fixed wage irrespective of games played

Even if that’s built in, presumably they’d get it if they’re injured. Otherwise Dom Sheed who’s missed 21 games this season would have lost out on $105,000 - $147,000.

It might be foolish or misguided for them to play injured, but I highly doubt they’re doing it to bump up their games played stats.

Thanks for clarifying.

Think it's only fitting now for one of us to delete their account.

I think I've seen this episode before re: Winder, and it doesn't end well for him. I'm curious to see if there's a midfielder in him given recent perfoances but just get the feeling the club has already made up their mind.

He is a midfielder. The club had tried to shoe-horn him into a forward pocket and it hasn't worked.

Bizarre how we pull s**t like this so often.
Agree, but I suspect part of it is that the coaches have written him off as a mid from the outset so they pencil them in as small forwards/defenders. You would assume it’d be easier to just draft specialist small forwards/defenders but who knows
