Anybody notice how happy Freddie was after the win?

He got through a game uninjured. Might strain a muscle smiling that much.

We’ll need him again against Adelaide, so hopefully he times his leaps a bit better.

I've never been a religious man because I need to see to believe.

But I have now seen the light. It shines from the ass of God himself.

I saw God today at the MCG and his name is Nick Daicos.

I am now a believer in Deities and those that are other worldly.

Hail to the King, baby!
I'm thinking of retiring my Bigfooty account name and just changing it to Nick Daicos, same thing right?

I remember being at a game in 2021 at the MCG against Gold Coast and wondering if things could get any worse. We were playing that slow, unbelievably boring style that inevitably resulted in turnovers and opposition scores. It was rock bottom for me and my support of the club.

How things have changed! We are genuinely the envy of the AFL world. We have the best coaching group, the best performing playing group and are being well run by a Board, CEO and President that are just getting on with the job. We also have a fella named Wright who has repaired so much of the list management damage.

And from a pride in what we stand for perspective, we have a captain who gives a speech like he did yesterday. Darcy was not the most obvious choice for captain if you approach that question in the traditional way. We have generally seen the Maynard types as captain material - hard, tough, lead us over the trenches. What we have is a modern captain who reflects our modern coach. Empathetic, mature, intelligent and above all, caring. And it is obvious how much these boys and their coaches care about each other.

Fair to say I am still in the afterglow!
ITs also great that we get to look over at Fremantle if ever we need a reminder of what might have otherwise been

I would love to know exactly what the coaches directions are for these last quarter come backs. Clearly it’s a pattern and not a coincidence and as much as it has an impact it’s also not just ‘belief’ as Fly cleverly tries to disguise it in his public speaking.

It also very often involves the same players. N Daicos, McReery and Crisp in particular who always lift in last quarters and get more of the ball. I get the sense that Crisp and Mcreery are told to go hunting the ball and add numbers to stoppages all around the ground and we try hard to force F50 stoppages so pump the ball there at all costs even if it’s not a clean kick. We also all seem to play a fair bit higher on the ground hence why you could see the likes of Ruscoe hitting it I50 all of a sudden.

Glad Beau is getting recognition for that last quarter but Crisp deserves some as well especially considering his start to the season has been poor by his standards. He had all the little efforts that made the difference to our clearance work and goals.

Also while N Daicos deserved the medal for his last quarter effort I think Jordy kept us in and was our best til then and in absolutely everything.

Nathan Krueger is getting some grief off a few posters. This is pretty unfair in my opinion. He came back into the reserves after a long injury lay-off last week and hardly touched the ball and I’m sure everyone would have known he wasn’t ready to have a big impact at senior level but it helped us with our structure big time. He may probably go back to the VFL this week if Nathan Murphy returns and hopefully he gets an opportunity to get some real form and come back into the team ready to go.

Replaced McStay, not Murphy. Doubt he’ll get dropped. Just needs to play some footy and the VFL have a bye this weekend.

Who would of thought the 3 players involved on the wing in the last quarter of Anzac Day to get the ball to Ginny for a crucial goal would be Markov, Will Kelly and Trey Ruscoe? :tearsofjoy:

Good observation.

One thing that was apparent in the final quarter was the number of tacklers we had around the contest when we didn't have the ball. Presumably the instruction when trailing is to not only lift our intensity, but to squeeze the middle of the ground (i.e. half back and half forwards squeeze 'up').

When the ball is in dispute there seems to be an instruction to keep it moving, regardless. We tend to either force the ball forward where possible, or sideways into space where McCreery, Sidebottom, Crisp etc. are operating. If we get clean possession the preferred option appears to be a forward handball or, where our wings have held their width, a switch like we saw in the play that led to Kelly hitting Hill.

The obvious risk is that playing this way leaves defenders in one on one scenarios if the ball is turned over or gets out the back of a contest, as our backs have pressed up and continue to press the deeper the ball goes into our forward line (i.e. like an offside trap in football). Teams who have elite skills and spacing (like Geelong) can capitalise on these scenarios, while teams with small pacy forwards (a la Brisbane) will also be a higher chance of scoring.

Probably had us in his quaddie, or whatever it is.

Nah, Daisy will always be a Pie.

He won a Premiership with us. Only left because of Buckley. It's no coincidence that since Buckley left all the old players and coaches have come back to the club and are supporting the Club.

Absolute class from Darcy Moore yesterday as captain. A continuation of the leadership he has already shown through the Winmar apology and so on. What a great young man, role model and leader of men. It really isn’t (or shouldn’t) be hard to use such a platform to put some good back into the world, particular for those who may lack a voice. He’s a bloody good one 👏

In an odd way it makes sense doesn't it?

Those 3 have already played 4 or 5 games together in the VFL this season so there's some connection there.

Not sure there’s anything deceptive about his power. He’s a tank.
Physically I wouldn't say he looks an imposing figure, not in the same way that Maynard does for instance. I's obvious he's a strong tackler, but I was surprised how easily he bounced a player off himself then continued on to collect the ball and feed it off to Elliott for the Daicos goal in the last quarter.
