- Derby streak is alive. The second derby is our GF (yep we’re back to that era, may as well embrace it)

- Serong looks like a bonafide star and signed for 5 years before this season began (thank god).

- We have our 2023 top pick playing in the side right now, several years developed. No he’s not a mystery box like we love in a draft pick but he’s for sure a top 10 talent. Jackson is up and down like a young tall is but he has a ton of tools and would undoubtably go top 10 or top 5 in the 2023 draft right now. So it might take some mental gymnastics but our draft pick is not gone, to keep your sanity accept that he is playing right now, looks to have potential, and hope he develops (ignore that he was also last years pick)

That’s what I got, don’t think there’s anymore but could be wrong.

Sam Sturt kicking goals and getting stuck into Lobby which I didn't see coming.
Sturt appears to be such a laidback sort of footballer (possibly to his detriment). That I can’t help but feel the it would have taken some comment from Lobby like “you have come to the wrong ground, Peel plays in Mandurah“ for him to be involved.

The teams poor performance has opened the door to Johnson and Sturt and hopefully Erasmus. Erasmus’s rough edges can and will be worked on and worked out, but what is undeniable is that we lack midfield size and mongrel and Erasmus, in time, will give us that in spades. Just imagine Erasmus diving in getting the ball and tackling like a madman and getting the ball out to the silky skills of Johnson. The sooner the better, I say.

The final positive for me is that the results in footy only ever affect you as much as you let them. Freo is a bit unwatchable at the moment, so I will select more family time and quality time with friends. Sure, I will keep an eye on results and can’t wait to watch whatever wins come our way ( I hope with a much better style of footy) but in the meantime even if Freo is playing, a walk with the dog appeals more.

You left out we have won more finals this decade then WC.

North are looking hopeless again. At least that means that pick 19 or 20 might just be in play for us this year.
If we have a poor season ourselves, our third round pick could be bundled with North early second to move up a couple of spots and get into the late first round.
We need North to win the spoon this year to get some useful draft capital.
If north continue losing games we should be able to draft a decent player with that early second round pick.
And still protect our 2024 draft hand.

Had a closer look and at present we sit with picks 23, 42, 50 and 60. 3 of those 4 picks are tied to North Melbourne. Pick 50 is tied to Carlton and is a 3rd rounder.
North finishing as low as possible is crucial for us.
If they finished bottom, we would have picks 20, 38, and 56 along with Carlton’s 3rd rounder.
That wouldn’t be disastrous. 20 and 38 could be packaged for example to get say, pick 16 or 17 and we would have a first rounder this year, albeit a late one.
Notably we have norths priority picks at rounds 2 and 3, not their actual picks. So we would be one selection after them in both rounds.
Joao all is not lost but we need to dearhride North hard this year!

Another reason it is annoying we lost to them. However, this is more positive than I thought our position was.

Well, if we stay true to the Dockery form, we win the spoon and Reid turns out to be a dual AA but pick 23 turns out to be Fyfe v2 and we all celebrate our good list management.

If you can accept that we're not making finals this year it makes the rest much more manageable. I'm readjusting my KPIs, instead of pushing for a flag I want to see us :

1. Get games into Erasmus, Johnson, Sturt, Amiss and Treacy;

2. Develop a game plan that plays to the strengths of the talent on our list. We have the list-profile to move the ball fast and with precision using Young, Clark, Chapman and Walker off half-back. If we can spend the next few weeks making improvements in that area we could ultimately win enough games to finish 9-12 which wouldn't be the end of the world re the Melbourne pick;

3. Get back to winning at the contest. Getting pumped at every stoppage has made us unwatchable and it feels like something that we should at the very least be able to break-even on given Serong, Brayshaw and Brodie are in there.

Ya probably lol

I see north as a bottom 4 side right now.
They are unlikely to finish much higher than this on the ladder and each position they fall is worth substantial draft capital to us.
If we can get ourselves to 10 wins for our part, and find a few players and get a decent game style going, we would be well placed then heading into next season.
And Melbourne would not get the top 10 pick or at worst it would be 9 or 10.

The travesty is if they are getting a top 5 pick with our first rounder.

First post guys and probably my last. Just when I'm ready to give up on the Dockers Sonny Walters, Bailey Banfield, Hayley Miller and Mikayla Hyde visit my sick grandson at Perth Children's Hospital. Thank you guys, gave him such a lift! Purple passion restored. Grandson on the mend.

At least we're an inexperienced team putting up these kind of performances...71 games average experience this weekend. Geelong had 141. Literally double.

I know we can't use it as an excuse but it really is a big factor when you compare our midfield to some of these others. Dogs with 8 guys over 150 games, us with only Sonny.

I find it positive that there is still quite a bit of positivity out there amongst us despite some of the deplorable football we have had to witness.
Unlike the Carlton board , which believe it or not ( I’m sure many of you have had a sneaky peak 😉) sounds exactly the same if not worse than ours 😁
TBH I reckon they have got more to lament about , no finals for 20 years despite one of the best forward lines and midfields in the comp ( at least we have got Youth as an excuse )

Stay positive Peeps
Negativity doesn’t help much 🤙

Their fielding a fairly inexpereinced team at the moment as well to be fair. Difference is they've got the two reigning coleman medallists heading the forward line and the reigning brownlow medallist in the middle.

Makes me feel a bit better that our forward line headed by Amiss (7 games) and Sturt (5 games) have still managed to score more points than them this year (yeah yeah opposition etc etc but idc I'll take it while i still can).

It comes from knowing we're playing nearly the youngest and most inexperienced team each week. If we had a 'premiership' experience profile like Carlton there'd be virtually no positivity

Only a quarter of the way through the year but here’s a comparison of Serong’s current season (on the left) v Lachie Neale’s 2020 Brownlow season:
EDIT: As Dockeroo quite rightly pointed out I haven’t considered the shorter game time in 2020. Still I will leave it up as Caleb’s season numbers to date are still very good

Marking and scoring the areas of improvement for Caleb.
I’m pretty sure he was more of a goal kicker in juniors and he’s shown an ability to kick goals in big moments so I’m confident he will improve that area of his game over time.
Dockers must have been pinching themselves when he and Young were still available at our picks.
