For someone with so much athleticism he turns like the QE2 when chasing.

Its because he looks for excuses to stop chasing. When opponents cut inside or change angle he immediately pulls out and starts jogging looking at the ground, even if the opponents are still next to him. Once you see it once you notice it a lot.

Do you think criticizing players after a poor performance should be banned?

Good you had to waste more posts to clarify that which is extremely obvious.

Silly question. My first post in this thread today criticised Ash.

Why would I ban myself?

You say strange things.

Was part of a forward collective who got their pants pulled down today.

McIness is someone you can probably afford to give game time to against lesser opposition but he doesn’t have much in the way of forward craft, and if it isn’t a snap from the boundary he can’t kick.

Mihocek tried hard but was completely ineffectual.

Bobby Hill kept flying for marks he can’t complete instead of getting front and centre.

He certainly doesn't turn as quickly as a Collingwood supporter does on their own players after a loss.
I'm certainly not turning on him and he wasn't the reason we lost today. It was a strange game where we kicked blind and often down the throats of their talls, especially exiting the back 50.

Ash is a keeper but he is well short on being consistent and needs to work on his one on one game. Like Ginni he needs to work on his deficiencies.

It’s not about turning on him, I think he has lots to offer and certainly x-factor - the reality is JDG, Sidebottom, Ginni, McStay, Elliott - potentially Howe.

How do people expect to fit 5-6 in this team without players going out?

Most of the team was off today. I'm not laying blame on any single player

His one wood is his marking or should I say marking when he can get separation or leap over an opponent. He struggles if forced to stand and wrestle and is often bodied off the flight of the ball if engaged from behind.

Unfortunately he dropped some marks early today he'd expect to take and with that seemingly went his confidence.

While Fly could cop a day off for a forward in terms of marks and/or scoreboard impact I'd like to think that things like pressure acts, tackling and positive body language are not negotiable and it's in these areas that Johnson was particularly poor in against Melbourne.

His game today was eerily similar to the preliminary final against Sydney and a good reminder to why we looked to get McStay to the club.

Johnson if afforded the opportunity is best suited to being the x-factor on top of the workhorses in McStay and Mihocek.

It wouldn’t be such an issue if he had the workrate to get up the ground and provide an outlet with his marking ability. We couldn’t get out of our own defensive 70m for loooooooooooong periods there.

Ash will be better with McStay taking the CHF spot.
So will all the other forwards.

That could be right.

But I don't deny the possibility that he's earned himself a demotion instead.

I think he needs to get serious if he's going to play AFL. I was a big fan until today because he did not put in any efforts. It's time he hardened up and stopped being so vanilla

I think the inner sanctum would be taking note of the pattern which seems to show AJ being ineffectual in tough, torrid, intense, physical games which describes most finals. He has the X factor and is very talented but his inability to halve a contest let alone win one when the heat is on is a big worry. He does not chase with any intent and this stands out in a team with players who dive across flying boots and chase as if their lives depended on it.

At the moment McStay would be a replacement if his hand is ready and if Freddy has another couple of good performances, he may get the nod ahead of AJ as the third marking option.

Another in the Barry Crocker club today, just did not go for him at all. And with guys like Kreuger putting solid form together, I guess that's what we want - pressure on the top 23 to perform. Enjoy the week off Ash, I'm still backing him in for some impact footy in the seniors in the second half of the year

Somewhat surprised we didn’t give in a run in the ruck to find some touch, but with the dees having two number one rucks he would have been up against it.

With his leap I’d like to see he trialled in defence at VFL level. Would obviously be a lot of learning in terms of defensive structures, but his physical attributes are similar to Howe.
