If the ball goes in between the two big sticks, who gives a s*** if it hits the post, call it a goal.
It works for soccer.

People don’t like change lol.
It’s complicated. If it bounces back into play - then what?

Some would say play-on.

But unlike soccer and rugby and hockey etc. our goalposts aren’t the extremity of the scoring area. We also have behinds, which means, despite the insistence of some, you can’t have play-on if it bounces back into play.

Thats because it is illogical that a very inaccurate kick that misses the goal area by two metres still scores one point. But if you miss the goal area by two inches, the ball hits the post and it bounces back into play you get nothing.

The more accurate kick is worth less.

Imagine a kick after the siren: 1996 Preliminary Final with Tony Lockett for example. A point needed to make the GF. If you miss the goals by a few metres you’re in the GF. If you miss it by inches into the post and it bounces back into play, you miss the GF.

Illogical.

In regards to the above quote, so, if rules were changed to award a goal when the ball goes through the goals after bouncing off the post, the 1 point for any other contact with the post would have to stay.

And, if the rule was changed to allow a goal you’d think it would cut down on Reviews. Contact with the post wouldn’t matter.

Be funny if it bounced on top of the post. Could be hard to tell which side it went.

Well, the Crows, Suns and Dockers play Eagles, Hawks and North next week. If the results go as per the ladder positions and we lose to Power ...

we will finish 15th and have paid Pick number 4 and 31 for Hopper (who would be an unrestricted free agent this year lol ....

then it would really suck to be us

Huh?? Not sure where to start with this…

1. We are 6-points ahead of Freo and GC so the lowest we can finish is 13th .. which is likely (2016 anyone?). So best case is pick-6.

2. Hopper was leaving GWS regardless. If we didn’t put our hat in the ring he goes to Geelong.

3. Let’s say we finish 13th, nominally pick-6. And North get a compo pick for McKay:

Pick #1 : Harley Reid (North)
#2: Jed Walter (GC matching North’s compo pick bid)
#3: Zane Duursma (North)
#4: McKercher (Eagles)
#5: Watson (Hawks)
#6: Currin (whomever trades for GC’s pick as they’ll get rid of it)
#7: Sanders (North … NGA indigenous player)
#8: Caddy (Freo)
#9: Ethan Read (GC match a bid for another academy player)
#10: Croft (Dogs match father/son bid)
#11: Rogers (GC match for academy player)
#12: O’Sullivan (GWS finally get to use the Hopper pick

So the absolute worst case is pick-6. But it would also slide to #12 based on potential draft order.

There’s no doubt Richmond knew about academy picks and the like. I’m also sure they’d have been thinking worst case we finish 10th, and the Hopper pick falls around #14-15 as a worst case. Get top-4 and it’s pick #20.

Obviously lower than 10th was a chance, but they would’ve been backing themselves to finisher higher than 13th. So in trades like this all you can do is ‘play the odds’. And if it falls to #12, then #12 and #31 (getting back 2 x later picks) is hardly any sort of epic disaster.

A few years ago Pies gave up a F1 as they knew Naicos was coming and it ended up being #2 as they finished 17th. They’re now on top and flag favourites.

The Hopper melting does my head in. It’s likely to be anywhere from #8 to #12. And in fact if Lions beat Saints Port can’t get top-2, and may even prefer to lose and get 4th to get Pies first up rather than Lions at GABBA. So a win is not impossible which would likely get us 10th and the Hopper pick becomes #11-#15.

Mate, haven't I told you before to stop putting facts in the story to make me look stupid, especially when I am melting lol

In any event, the 2023 first rounder traded out for Hopper is going to be nowhere near the top 4 pick that was being prematurely celebrated by the treasonous enemies of the Richmond FC at some points of this season. And even last years pick that was in the deal ended up being pick 34.

I don't think we will get near beating Port but it would be hilarious if we could get the pick to somehow slide into the mid teens. Hilarious I guess but for the fact it will likely deposit our second rounder somewhere in the mid-30's.

I do think the AFL should stop some of this stuff in its tracks and say the first 18 picks go one to each club unless you trade it out. And if you have an academy player or father-son you need to use your natural next pick to cover it, if you have traded it out, bad luck you can't match. Same with father-sons. If you have points left over after matching with discount then fair enough your next pick gets elevated. Same with free agency compo, take it outside the first 18 picks. We obviously don't have our natural 1st rounder this year but imagine teams like the Cats who finish outside finals first time in years and might get about pick 14. In their case **** them. But you wouldn't want that to happen to a genuine club. Like us. :)

@25:15 Sooky Crow's historian reckons they blew the Granny and nothing to do with Richmond being the better team.

Also reckons Dusty would have signed with the Crows if they won the granny.

FWIW Dusty re-signed 4 weeks before then Granny on 31/08 a day I celebrate each year. He couldn't have played with the Crows until 2018 even if he signed with them.

I can tell him why they lost to us, they thought they were a shoe in, had it in the bag, only had to go through the motions, we shocked the life out of them with our desire, tackling and game plan, by the time they woke up it was all over.

Tell him to put his blindfold back on and play our song

The media outrage over the Croms non-review just makes me laugh. Where was this outrage last year when a systemic process wasn’t even followed? The AFL had a golden opportunity to fix it - but that would have been too embarrassing. You just knew eventually another cockup would highlight the inadequacies- yet everyone is surprised? Pathetic.

I guess an 8 million dollar contract is gonna motivate him.
doubt the sum. call me a conspiracy theorist but reckon the deal was hatched while dimma was our coach. nice little job. very good list with three top academy players to be added.
