What can you tell me about this guy? My father talks about him like he was amazing and played a bit of football with him. I would like to find out more and see what stories people have from Richmond days. Ps I looked for a thread to ask the question but couldn't find an appropriate one, so I had to start my own.

Past Player of the Week - Michael Mitchell

Good evening everyone, so glad it's Friday and nothing beats watching Friday night footy, if Richmond is playing or not. Ok so it seems the "Past Player of the Week" concept was well received by Tiger people on this board. So I thought I'd get started with the inaugural Past Player of the Week...

What a fecking grab! Fully extended and still marking above his head!! Feet on the oppo head!!! Best of all time!
Kudos to the camera-person for spot on pics...hope you got a sports award for that shot!(And what was your name?!)
The timing involved in that leap and surrounded by the constantly moving oppo!...eyes on the ball at all time kiddies!
Would be elite...sometimes in our brutal game a piece of wonderful play opens up for an instant...and in hindsight we can only marvel and eulogize...that is/was poetry...poetry in motion...blink and you missed it!
That pic B.Gale ought to be hung in the reception room of the new PRO extensions...a full blown Pic...floor to ceiling!

Was at the preseason game at Bayswater Oval against North when Mick Martyn took him out behind the play... he never really got over that concussion sadly. One of my all time favourite Tigers.

Was also at the game that he took that massive mark against the Lions... was on ANZAC Day in 1990 (Don't believe the Ess/Coll supporters who say they started the ANZAC game tradition!!! They did however make the spectacle what it is today)

I was at the practice game in Bayswater too. Mick Martin was a dog and took him out. Hated him thereafter, just a thug, and Mitch was never the same after that act of thuggery
 
Hard to name a player who covered the ground better in terms of his acceleration, raw pace and silky movement. He glided across the turf like it was effortless to run faster than anyone around him.

Top-notch skills hand and foot and the aerial ability was truly astonishing on a day you were lucky enough.

IMO, it's probably become a bit forgotten as to how much of a huge drawcard he was for us during a really tough era. A bloke you'd still go to watch expecting a thrashing on a freezing, wet day...just in case that was another day the magic came. :thumbsu:

We have had him on our weekly podcast a couple of times, he is great to listen to!
