A while ago we noticed water leaking from the shower into the floor and wall so we booked in a partial reno (just deleting adjacent bathtub for bigger shower). Demo started today and it turns out at some point someone has replaced the original tiles (house built in 1980) and just stuck them on with liquid nails.

Update: some were just held in place with grout
