Slashed fire department funds, water diversion, Insurance companies bailing I'm on the verge of tin foil hat stuff with the LA fires.
Either the incompetence is breathtaking or its deliberate lol.

I mean the place has always been a tinder box, but the info we are hearing seems beyond belief.

This guy that saved his house and a neighbours just by using the garden hose to stop flying embers while eveything else around burnt to the ground was interesting, he reckons if there was one fire truck on hand they would've saved the entire street.. Just weird the lack of man power.

Yeah the USA is a stinking shit hole with a government that hates life. Save yourself the trip to Woolies for that foil brutha

$420 million budget for the fire department but they still rely on prisoners to act as fire fighters.

Hot summer and dry winter with an agricultural demand for water to grow unsustainable crops and no surprise water ain't available, even to the obscenely wealthy. What is it with farmers having that much power everywhere?

Still 90 mile winds and I don't think you can stop anything once it gets going no matter how prepared you are.

Worth reading this to get a handle on the lack of water. There is water but the firefront is so widespread and so ferocious, and the areas so populated for available infrastructure that the water supply is exhausted quickly.

These are climate change fueled fires that show the lack of preparation of politicians of all persuasions and society for what this means.

The US has a range of commercial and private fire fighters, they're not reliant on government-funded, but if the infrastructure isn't there and the water supply is getting quickly exhausted because the fires are so intense and widespread, the number of firefighters won't matter.

We saw this in Australia in the Summer of ScoMo where experienced firefighters said they had never seen fires of that intensity and magnitude.

It's not tinfoil hat stuff or deliberate destruction, it's simply lack of preparation for the new worst case scenario.

Yep. Not forgetting that this is mid winter in the US. Unprecedented wildfires in LA that exploded to 16 times in size within three hours at the same time up to 18 cm of snow fell in large parts of Texas within a few hours.

And 2024 was the hottest year in recorded history. (the previous hottest year was way back in.....2023)

I guess the difference is the microscope will be even heavier over there considering we are talking about heavily populated areas compared to our fires.

The microscope and unfortunately the parochial rhetoric.

The thing about fire is it's an equal opportunity destroyer. The MAGA crowd dance in the street because Mark Hamill's house burned down, the Dems dance because James Woods' house burned down.

It's not like the LAFD has been a bastion of tolerance.
Orders around its hiring practices go back to the 70s

The assistant chief, who has testified for the department as an expert in disciplinary procedures, pointed to an incident in which a white firefighter was allowed to remain on the job after he was accused of punching a Black detainee in the head while the man was restrained on a gurney and tightening a towel around his face, causing him to yell, “I can’t breathe.”

Have any of the MAGA/Project 2025/MTG/Loopy Loomer types declared that this is Gard's revenge for Calithumpians voting for Kamala, conveniently ignoring the regular hurricanes that smash the mainly red states?
No but pretty sure both sides are blaming whatever outlandish reasons and extremely tenuous links they can in a hilarious battle of mental gymnastics.

Fact is fires happen but the management and prep is unforgivably bad.

Plenty have! Seen it many times.

This is the problem when people pick a colour and see nothing else you end up with buffoons at both extremes.

They've had issues with homeless people starting fires to keep warm on the outskirts, this may very well be the case but everyone is saying that the winds started the fire. I honestly hope Hollywood burns to the ground, and I'm not even going to backtrack.

They’ve literally got prison slave labour fighting these fires for 9¢ a day a max of ~$10 a day, which isn’t an emergency measure, it’s established policy.

But they’ve just elected a Shadow Government of Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Mark Zuckerberg and a bunch of other hyper-rich arseholes, so the middle and lower classes can definitely look forward to their lives getting better soon! 🤪

The American imperialist project is beyond redemption. They're at the wheel and they're taking humanity down with them. I genuinely reckon we're passed the point of things getting better ever again. I'm getting ready to learn Chinese, buddy.

I mean yea but this requires the belief that a place like LA can actually get any worse..
