Interesting that anyone would need to be told that.
I think Crouch has been told for the last 4 years to stop crabbing sideways and go direct.

I also think that with better skills around him, Crouch can look for a better option now as his natural tendency is to move sideways - I wonder if Murray spoke to Nicks about this.

Sometimes I get whiplash trying to follow all the bickering on here.

It’s pretty good this season though, to see extensive debate over ROB vs Strachan when the answer is neither.

Regardless of injury or no injury Strachan really isn’t the answer to the question on upgrading Rob, and never will be.

It’s a bit like Crouch vs Berry - the answer should be Soligo

Debating levels of mediocrity is fun, but hopefully at the end of this season the floor has been raised along with the ceiling

Samson, Theissen, Koster, hell Robran copped a lot of flak.

Clay Sampson - Games pre flag years - 0, games during flag years - 10 & 14, games post flag years - 0, traded out end 1998
James Theissen - Games pre flag years - 0, games during flag years - 24, games post flag years 20 - delisted t end 2000

Vast difference between whipping boys that we correctly churned through and the Murphy's and Mackay's season after season as last bloke picked.

Robran is interesting because I do recall him being a bit maligned, but I think that was because the gap between his best and his worst was so extreme and he was such a massive talent.

That doesn't really mean anything though, in this context. That lists players who have injuries which are/were serious enough to render them unavailable for selection. It doesn't list players who are carrying niggles or injuries which aren't serious enough to prevent them from being selected.

McHenry 70 games was a whipping boy - delisted
Murphy 115 games, whipping boy - will struggle to get a game this year

It’s funny, it’s almost like the whipping boys aren’t good players…..

Now if we go back to back with good players, why would there be whipping boys?

Oh come on he was perfectly OK for 3/4 quarters and was getting worked over by Nankervis so they had very little to lose by bringing on the sub to offer more run.

And if the injury was at all restrictive no way he then fronts up against Sydney/Grundy 9 days later with ROB fronting up earlier that day against WWT at the same venue, just another case of questionable selection when historically ROB has usually been OK against Grundy.
Unless they were trying to make a point to ROB after a run of below par form

Generally speaking

It must be terrible to be an AFL player on the cusp of selection and then the rare opportunity you have comes when your partially injured or sick and politics dictates the club won’t talk about it.

Then after you get canned for your performance but just have to cop it because club PR.

Interesting that a mic'd up Murray told Crouch that it's better to go sideways if he hits the target than bomb it forward.
I’ll assume laird spat it at him!
You try and tell lairdy he’s not going to bomb it without looking.

Fronted up for the Crows SANFL's next game against the Bays after being dropped and dominated as usual with 18 disposals, 41 hit outs, 11 marks, 3 clearances and 9 inside 50's so he didn't have too many lingering niggles by the look?

Who knows? Some niggles last for weeks, and players play through them all the time. Some only last for a relatively short time. They don't get mentioned in the media releases unless they have injuries which are serious enough for them to be unavailable.

I'm not saying that he was or wasn't carrying an injury. I don't know whether he was or wasn't. I'm just saying that the injury lists published by the AFL & AFC do not list every injury for every player on the list - only those injuries which are sufficiently serious enough to prevent the player from being selected. Thus, while they can be used as proof that a player was injured, they can't be used as evidence that a player wasn't injured.

You honestly think if Strachan wasn't good to go against Sydney Nicks would have played him with ROB perfectly fine to play? I don't. That would be like Nicks cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Nicks has his faults but I don't think he's downright stupid.

Ruckman Kieran Strachan was subbed out of the loss to Richmond with a groin complaint but it is not expected to keep him out this week.

“Strachany lost a bit of power in his groin during the game and given the state of the game and needing to bring on the sub we thought it was the best decision to take him out.

“He trained fully on Monday and I’m sure he will train on Wednesday and be fine for the weekend.”

Running laps already 4 days later......

Strachan (12 disposals, (16 hit outs, 1 clearance) perfectly fine 9 days later to be selected for the next game against Sydney where Grundy had (31 disposals, 49 Hit outs, 9 clearances) completely obliterated him.

Good to go so I take it Burgess and the medicos gave him a clean bill of health prior to the Sydney game

Yep, Adelaide has never stubbornly played an injured player. Never happens at all, glad someone pointed it out.

And relevant to him being selected for the Sydney game 9 days later with a perfectly fit ROB on the sidelines?

Stop making excuses for Strachan's 2024 sub par AFL performances
