Gross has to play AFL next week surely. Don't care who's available. We need genuine stoppage mids in there, not just cobbled together numbers from infinite HFFs and HBFs.

Our club has undervalued actual stoppage-first players for so long - I'd be tempted to give Gross a 5 week 'contract' in the AFL side as in 'we're going to give you 5 weeks minimum in the middle win or lose, let's see what you can do for us in there'. Back him in.

imagine it would depend on Graham's availability and how Hall goes tomorrow

but I imagine he would definitely be next in line

Stats page shows Allan playing but no Hall. Or TEB.

And Peel already up 13-0
Not surprised TEB didn't play . Did all the pre-season at East Perth in 2023 to just disappear to community football.
Should never given him the nick name the hyphen it should have been the question.
Question? Is he gonna p[lay.

To a large degree, yes.....but also what last week demonstrated is just how little ability we have to cover oppo spread.... Graham or no Graham. Bringing in young guys might be a lever mini turns to more and more if midfield doesn't start pulling its weight.

There's no guarantee that Kelly keeps his spot for example.

Happy for the boys to at least get some confidence - albeit a practice match.

In the photos I've seen of Shanahan he looks like a serious unit already. Don't think it'll be too long before he's AFL ready physically, maybe a bit more time strength and endurance wise but looks like he'll turn out to be a monster.

Edit, from training this week:

I missed the first 10 minutes so I didn't see our first 2 goals . Shanahan apparently kicked 3 but I only noticed the 1 high mark at oppo end where he goaled . When he was up my this end he seemed well held by the Peel full back .
Malakai Champion I only noticed after half time but he had electric pace taking a bounce the wrong way to circle around a player and come back again past him and his pressure was really good .
Bo Allen I thought looked underdone in the 1st half but I was obviously wrong because in 2nd half he was bursting through traffic with pace and energy .
Grecco down back with Bazzo waxing the ball to each other getting sync running on and receiving from each other . Bazzo did some nice spoils and didn't appear to be unfit from lack of preseason . Grecco went into middle in the 3rd and teamed well with Gross in there
Gross was first to the ball in stoppages a lot even when Barnett was nether winning or losing just seemed to know where to be and had a lot of clearances and i50s
Barnett toiled without being dominant or being dominated .
JWilliams took some nice grabs was a target at chf did put pressure on and his tackles stuck . He had a few Centre rucks after H/T .
Rawlinson may have played well I don't know why I didn't pay much attention to him . I probably just thought he was a wafl eagle many I don't know .
The wafl boys played well and the Peel side dropped a lot of easy marks . Maybe the perceived pressure . Maybe we were lucky as well that they were scrappy
What's your take on Davis' and Brock's games, since they're the only two that didn't rate a mention.

It’s preseason so can’t read too much into it but a win’s a win especially when you consider that if the 11 listed players we used, 6 were first year draftees

The other thing is that good performances in the WAFL maintains pressure on the seniors for a spot in the best 22

The WAFL match centre I'm looking at only has goalkickers. No other stats though

Yep that’s where I’m getting it from.

72-61 lead at the final break after five goals to two in that term.

Goalscorers Williams, Shanahan, Walsh 2, Davis, Mercer, Mumme, Sparks, Mouritz

Ah yep right you are

Would it kill them to give us some ****ing stats on the wafl site?

The WAFL hasn't recorded stats for pre-season games in years, goals and behinds only.

Best players as per the WAFL site: H Davis, T Mouritz, H Sparks, H Barnett, T Gross
Yeah T Moritz did a lot of ruckwork in last 1/4 undersized but did enough as the scoreline in last 1/4 suggested. Peel got 2 goals in the last minute and siren which made their last qtr look better
Sandy Brock i forgot to mention was ok without standing out too much .

Hammer was good yes did some nice things. Good endurance nice saw a good Mark he took . He kicked a goal or 2 . See post above for Brock .
I don't mind these blokes playing a bit more wafl together . Barnett's host dad of last year said Barnets a tendency to be lazy and has a rocket put under him by mcqualter . He knows he has to pull his finger out or be delisted and get fitter more motivated .
Personally I would like to see JWilliams lean off a bit as his skills are good but he needs to get to more contests or spread .
Shanahan could do with some more fitness and Wafl development .
Bo Allen can step up to Afl . Gross isn't too far off . Hamish Davis and Lucca are not far off iether .
Let's see if these boys can back one good hitout up with more . Hoarsely in his article suggested they can

Amazing thanks boondy. As Davis's sponsor it's great to hear he's playing well. Would be really cool to see him make a debut this year. I'm looking forward to checking out next week's match in person. If we win two on the trot surely the lid is off.

Absolutely crazy there was talk we take him with our first rounder and we end up getting him with our second after a heap of talks had already left the board.

I am super bullish about this kid (and a few others from last draft), but to see the size and tone of some of the new kids on the list makes me wonder what our strength and conditioning team has been doing with some of our older guys for the last 5 years.
