Walls was on radio yesterday and was asked about Allan. He said he rated him, and thought he'd be on the cusp of being available at Freo's pick. But he then said he thought he was best as a high half back, and that Freo had plenty of that type. So reading between the lines, I'd say there's no...
Its gotta be spin right? I'm not a hater by any stretch, but he ended the year playing fat side wing in the WAFL GF. Hard to see what we'd be assuring him.
Wow. So this is trending towards Freo sacking coach, CEO and list manager, and Bolton being used to bring Harley Reid to Richmond.
A good balanced view of the state of play.
Slight digression but what were the Dees using for Houston? Looks like they hold 5 and then 40. I thought Port weren't interested in futures so they were using 5 in some capacity?
Thought the same thing. Not reading too much into the article, but if you take it on face value, he's almost implying that if he was out of contract and/or WC were happy to move him on, he's on the radar.
He's not really a goal kicker though is he, more a competitive pressure forward? We could use one of those, but he's 24, and we're tight on list spots, would rather chase someone with more upside.
Fair, but disagree. His CBAs had declined year on year for three years 21 to 23, nothing to do with this season, they were already using him in roles outside the centre square. Even as a primary mid he wasn't a primary clearance player.
Mills was already pushed out of their centre square set up as he isn't a great clearance winner, and Parker has been phased out this year.
There's a role there for a big bodied first possession player. I'm not saying Brodie is it but I'm not sure they go chips in on Heeney, Rowbottom, Warner...
Was that Clug chipping to Lester in the corridor waltzing forward unopposed? Yeah fair.
I thought the Parker plan was average. You're playing three talls but try tag Andrews with Parker, which let's Andrews dictate where he wants to defend, and robs you of forward pressure.
Flow on effect was...
What sort of small defender roles was he playing? Like a ball user rebounder type or genuine small defender.
Some of his ball winning stuff looked really good for first time as a mid at the level.
What's everyone's thoughts on NODs role next year? I presume most b22s will plant him on the wing, but watching the Peel finals series, today in particular, maybe he is an option for more genuine midfield time?
How though? With a pick 10 next year and futures?
Means we're paying 9, 10, 17 for Bolton and expecting to get another big name in with a heap less to trade with.
I know there's lots of moving parts each year but doesn't quite fit.
What's the logic to giving up all 3 firsts (at least 1 extra) for cap space?
Means we either can't afford him (which brings a fair bit of risk), or we're trying to preserve cap space, which we can't use anyway with all our key assets gone?
Where do we sit then in terms of preference to start next year?
If we try blend Ras in to that role, it keeps Johnson as the 5th mid and splitting time off a wing. Alternatively if Johnson is the way forward we prioritise him, lose a bit of defensive balance, but perhaps as importantly there's...
I thought Switta was excellent tonight. One bad miss stung, barely put a foot wrong outside of it. Wouldve thought in a season on the line type game tonight he'd be one that gets a big tick.
JLo let slip (confirm) that Darcy will be in for knee surgery?
I thought the question was will Treacy and Darcy need surgery, and it was Treacy wouldve been available for two weeks, Darcy umm not sure..
The wing was the 'send the kpd to the front edge of the square late in the game to play fwd' move, rather than actually play wing, but agree was interesting that he was the one they decided to roll.
I think there's enough data to suggest there's not equal chance 9, 10 and 15 (or whatever they end up at) wash out or improve the best 22.
That's like saying we shouldn't trade for Bolton because he might suffer a career threatening injury.
Yep. I'd love to see the list modelling on what we might look like if we went to the draft.
I suspect in a perfect world there'd be an argument that just maxxing talent with our age profile extends the timeline to remain a top 4 squad, opens up future list management moves, giving us best...
They're still related though.
If we've got no forward targets on the horizon our interest in bridging the gap between our offer and rival offer increases. If we've got multiple targets and cap space gets tight then we draw the line somewhere.
We've been linked to McDonald, Baker, Warner, Bolton. I'd say there's every chance Sturt can attract a decent offer from the east coast and we're not sure how far we want to stretch pending other targets?
What was the play today instead of subbing Fyfe?
Like if the Tabs subbing messed our structure, the Fyfe sub was as good as we could do keeping our structure in tact.
Drizz basically had to come in to the midfield. We desperately needed some run and carry through there. It was either sub Fyfe...
