Completely agree and thank you for saying it @ Flukey. @ Dominic, while I am not an avid reader on this website, it is clear you are a passionate and knowledgeable footy fan and I think you bring a lot to the discussion (I also rarelysee you post anything that is in any way disparaging of...
Agree with this completely. Petracca and Oliver are absolute power athletes who clear contests and break tackles through explosive power. We don't have anyone in our midfield with that explosiveness (although I have hopes for newcombe).
I really liked his game against the swans, was ferocious at the man and the contest, particularly in the first quarter. This was 2018 Mitchell and it was great to see he still has that firat class contested game in him.
I would be over the moon if we could get even one first round pick for Mitchell. Unfortunately I think we now have enough evidence to assume that this is who he is post injury and it isn't the same player as Brownlow Titch. He has lost his explosiveness, and a step of pace. This means he can't...
Smith's ability to gut a short or difficult target was horrendous. But he did break lines and could roost it 65 which made him extremely valuable.
Agree with most that Phillips is a good honest player, but unless he cleans u pp his disposal he is never going to move the needle for us. Good...
Yep, completely agree. In some cases a long stint in the VFL to work on key aspects of their games is going to be best for young players development. Giving Jeka the chance to be the number one target and increase his confidence, or Finn an opportunity to play defensive on ball role in the VFL...
I agree that Howe wasn't our worst player, and to be honest I don't mind the errors he made trying to inititate agressive play by centering the ball. As other have mentioned, Hodge was pretty prone to those errors too (wasn't just the game against Geelong, there were dozens of examples).
The...
Some promising signs.
JOM was amazing , that last quarter it felt like he won every clearance and he was clean throughout. He's had quarters/games like this before though - would love him to back it up consistently like TOM does.
Morrison has been great so far this year, very clean and running...
It's amazing that even with rules designed to open up the game, Richmond makes it an unwatchable defensive scrap..
Loving our backline rebound and fighting spirit - competitive effort all round. Desperately miss Wingard and Gunston for some forward half class.
Yep - and couldn't be better suited to the new rules. Having a bunch of players that can break lines with pace and long kicking from handball receives will make it difficult for teams to keep those tight cluster zones. A forward handball, ten meter dash, then a 60 metre kick means teams will...
Feel like the new rules will really help Dylan. I know this often happens to an extent in the early rounds but if the quicker ball movement lasts, clever link up players with good endurance and the ability to find space will thrive.
This is a really outstanding and helpful report. Thanks.
So happy VFL is back to let out young players work on their deficiencies - and very pleased Lewis seems to be doing just that with his defensive/second efforts, which unfortunately were below AFL standard last year. If he can correct that...
What an enjoyable game. At half time I was genuinely concerned that our midfield issues from last year were terminal, but gee they turned it around. I know Titch was great in the 3rd, but reckon JOM needs some kudos too. Be really stepped it up at the end of the second against the run of play...
This. There's a perfectly rational reason they got to where they were (And poor luck with Beams didn't help) - and getting rid of some players on high salaries is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, given the salary cap circumstances.
But the way they've gone about it and refuse to own it is...
Not sure about the rioli move, but agree that I'm pleased with our trade period, not just the money ball pick ups we did, but also the trade we DIDN'T do.
Treloar must have been tempting, but even with the Pies paying a portion of his salary that's a long and risky contract, given his age and...
Well done, this is a really solid trade that would be really tempting to all parties.
I think we say no, but it's REALLY tempting to do a one year rebuild.
I've only seen one game so take this with a grain of salt, but what I observed is an intense competitor who is happy to do the chasing, tackling, harrasing that Poppy used to excel in.
Have no idea on his skill level etc but from what I've seen he could definitely fill the defensuve role we...
Ultimately the right outcome.
Doesn't restore my faith much in the compo process though as I feel this is largely based on a "formula" of the AFL punishing the Crows for trying to be dodgy pricks..
Excited we get a choice out of two of the fantastic five!
Remember it well, started ten metres behind after a huge kick (Sic I believe) on a wet day - amazing running power running, although overtaking Jordan Lewis is no great feat..
My question is around his burst speed from 0 - 20 - I haven't seen too much of it. Treloar does it consistently.
Have we seen this burst speed from JOM at all since he joined us though? I'm not sure I have..
Might be a Chris Judd situation where he has lost that elite burst and is better as a power player in the clinches, albeit one me who can occasionally burst out of a pack. I'm not sold on the...
