Hi McPang
Thanks for the kind words - please feel free to use any of my stuff.
There were three games in 1966 where Richmond lost Premiership points over Frank Laughlin not being registered. Checking the reserves teams, Laughlin was named in the Round 12 and Round 15 matches. Unfortunately...
My VFL Reserves project is now complete. All scores have been found, and ladders have been created from the results. From the mid 30s onwards, all ladder positions agree with sources such as the Football Record and The Age. There are some minor discrepancies before this, but number of wins...
Relying on the Recent Deaths forum would give a start. Anything further back would entail looking at the Encyclopaedia of AFL players. A worthy subject to look into.
Not a problem Gibbsy. I would have liked to go back to 2000 for all Victorian Leagues, but I had no way of double checking results - short of days spent at SLV. I even had a plan to at least have Grand Final results pre 2000 for all Victorian Leagues (I have pretty much all of the Age at...
To give an idea about the Sporting Pulse, a few years back I used the records on this, the Country Football Scores Website, Phils World, and the Age to come up with scores and ladders of Victorian Country Football Leagues Scores and Ladders. Hope the following helps.
I think that tthe confusion lies within the Reserves Start Times. For possibly the only time ever the St.Kilda v Essendon Reserves match did start in the afternooon - but at the Away Ground.
Here’s one that I’m surprised has not been picked up before.
Essendon v St.Kilda 13 June 1938. AFL Tables has start time of 2.30 PM.
In fact this was a morning match which began at 10.30 AM.
Later in the Month, I’ll be at the SLV for a couple of days, mainly capturing football results from the Sun from 1955 to hopefully about 1970. I’ll also have a look for the herald for that date.
Thanks for this. The game in May had 3 quarter time scores from the Herald. Maybe the SLV has a final edition of the paper for that day. Failing that, I wonder if a final ladder for that Season was recorded somewhere.
This is my big project - the VFA. Q by Q scores and goalkickers. I'm in the process of another check of these scores with TThe Sun which is now complete on Trove.
5/5/1924 - I only have scores at 3 quarter time.
7/6/1926 - No scores in any of the major newspapers. Tried to calculate the scores from the ladders given in the Geelong Advertiser, but had very little luck.
Hi All. Some of the things I have been working on:
VFL Reserves (missing a couple of St.Kiilda v Collingwood results from the 20s).
VFL Under 19s except for 1946 and 1948 results. The Sun has the 1947 details, and 1949 onwards.
TFL and various iterations
VFA results and goalkickers including...

To put it simply,
A few minutes ago, I saw Jobe Watson part of their Channel 7 commentary team.
I was flabbergasted.
Te said guy that wanted to sit in the Centre circle as a protest - the same guy that retired from Essendon because he fell out of love with the game.
Now he is...
Thanks Rhett. The newspapers back then are netoriouly hard to read.
One of the reasons why I haven't posted any more VFL Seconds Scores, is because of discrepancies in scores between the Age, the Argus, the Sporting Globe, the Herald, and later on the Football Record.
A case in point.is Round...
