It's interesting to think about the development of our team over the 8 years to our flag under Fagan. We have kind of done it in fundamental layers like so:
1) added key young talls and added senior talls to mentor / protect them
2) added a lot of coalface clearance midfielders
3) added skilled...
Speed is also important to balance in our team as we don't have a lot of players with alot of pace. Our miss are all relatively slow so balancing the with some fast defensive half forwards seems like a good play. Especially when they are players you can generally get on the cheap.
This is good analysis but the only thing is I would put McLaughlan by your own reckoning as a small forward as he's listed at 181cm on the lions website and the snippets I've seen of him he seems to play like a crumbing player, but i dont watch much ressies.
I think we are more likely to keep...
Losing sharp will definitely hurt, he's got a weapon few others do in his running that tbh will probably carry him to a decent career. Stay in the game that long you generally will come good or at least be a serviceable AFL player. His strength is also a decent weakness in our team, although we...
Both players spent a similar amount of time at their first clubs. I think the nature of Dannihers choice to move to Brisbane (be out of the limelight), rather then Lynch's (get into the limelight) is what displays the most about their character to me. That's probably the fundamental reason why I...
Was Danniher the captain of Essendon and did we win the premiership the year before? There's a sliding scale and for sure Danniher was on it, but I would say we wouldn't have won a flag without him. I wouldn't say the same for Lynch and the tigers.
Lynch isn't the only one in that basket, you...
If gawn is frothing over our team so hard maybe he wouldn't mind jumping off the dees sinking ship and sitting up forward in the goal square for a year.
It should be remembered that when Danniher first joined us, he also was pretty average in the ruck. He had definitely played as a relief ruck at times at Essendon, but not with any great confidence, and we played Fort and Oscar during that time as a result. His growth into that role has been...
I rate Draper extremely highly as a Ruckman, but as a forward he's probably so so. If we had the draft capital to make it happen I would be all for it but no idea how we could satisfy Essendon in a trade for him. They will want 2 first rounders unless he's a FA.
Lynch went from a bottom 2 club to the reigning premiers, after being the captain of the club. He is pretty much the definition of a mercenary? If we poach Larkey from North Melbourne this year to replace Danniher, I'll consider him a mercenary too.
We definitely have some players that could...
Besides being an absolute mercenary and chasing flags at the Tigers? To me he's just got one of those entitled private school boy faces, but he also loves to punch up the little guy.
Yeah definitely a good point. Could easily see Coleman into half back, Wilmot to wing and Fletcher out of the side.
I still like what Fletcher brings and he will be a player but has had lower impact games across the year.
Last time Ah Chee played as the loose for us in the backline (when Geelong manufactured their +1 to release Stewart).
Much more comfortable with him playing a shutdown role in the forward line.
There's two things that have really been bugging me about the commentary on Joe Danniher and Cam Rayner after the game last night that i need to get out.
Firstly, for Joe his two "glaring errors" were wrapping around the back for the shot off Dunkley, sure execution was poor, but that was...
I thought GWS were well coached to break our two main modes of moving the ball. At stoppage contests, their HFFs moved up the ground and made the game very congested. When we had the ball in the back half the HFFs moved to really shutdown the 50m arc near the corner of the center square (our...
Geelongs clearance differential massively skewed with a +20 domination against Adelaide, the rest of their games in that round 16-24 period were basically a wash when you take that out of consideration.
That said, watching their elim final, they have a few guys with serious pace in the middle...
There was a bit of chatter on the game last Friday about his running capacity, so was mostly going off that. Thought could be an Isaac Smith style pickup, but if he can't run anymore then yeah he's cooked.
Was always a bit overrated imo cause he racked up good supercoach scores.
Macrae has the attributes to be a decent wing prospect IMO. A bit of a seagull that loves cheap possies though. Not sure we are looking for a veteran winger though with our list.
Beekens disposal off half back looks similar to Zorko. You can tell our shift into a chip mark possession off the half back line in our drafting can't you. A backline of half backs with Coleman, Zorko, Wilmot, Brain, Beeken, McKenna (down on form) shows the effort put into those guys.
Brain...
There seems IMO two simple ways to deal with the Hogan situation.
Firstly, we had both Joyce and Andrew's down there, so theoretically it doesn't matter who takes Hogan from center bounces in that situation. Both are KPD so Hogan isn't really getting a mis match, who ever is getting blocked...
