Lucky Villa had the white shorts on this morning against Bayern. Not sure why teams are wearing black away to Aston Villa or West Ham. Black and Claret, from a distance, just do not contrast...
Not sure this would have made things much better to be honest. Yes, it greatly improves the contrast from the back, but essentially shifts the similarity to the front, where both sides would have a reddish upper section, and a predominantly light lower section.
When are people gonna realise this is f*cked because Sydney's guernsey is f*cked. Let's just get rid of f*cked jumpers. Please nobody tell me it's their right to wear a f*cked jumper. South Melbourne's jumper had a white back with red numbers for how long? It was a great f*cken jumper. Then they...
Who would have thought jumpers with significantly differing front/back colours would make contrast more challenging? Imagine if every club had one. Clubs would probably need four alternate strips, maybe five. I'm still not sure any overseas clubs use them. No famous ones anyway.
Yep. Syd in white shorts, Bris in maroon would be the max contrast for me. But even if Syd said we'll wear the South kit as long as we can have red shorts, I think it would still be an improvement, regardless of Bris's shorts colour.
This is the AFL. You couldn't rule out Sydney in home top with white shorts. Not sure when they last wore that combo but I remember seeing it at the Western Oval in Fitzroy's final years in the 90s. Crowd was pretty sparse that day.
Sydney & Brisbane. Let the fun and games begin. If I was in charge, I'd have Sydney in South Melbourne jumper with white shorts, Brisbane in full maroon. Doubt i'll see it though.
Only potentially in away games against North and Geelong would you need a red backed (and ideally predominantly red fronted) alternate. I think the white backs with red numbers enhance the spectacle in the majority of matchups, albeit only slightly in some cases, but the pros outweigh the cons...
Sydney v Port is a solid 8 on the contrastometer. Could have been a 9.75 if Port had black backs with white numbers and Sydney had white backs with red numbers, which they both once did before they tried to reinvent the wheel...
You guessed incorrectly. I don't have any issue at all with GWS's colours. My issue is with their arrangement on a jumper that sees greatly different predominant colours and design front to back. I'm still doubtful big sporting leagues overseas would allow them and you've done little to change...
If Collingwood meet Carlton in a final, it'd be interesting to see how it was handled. I've got a feeling that, even if the Pies were higher ranked, the AFL would tell them to wear the predominantly white with black numbers. Obviously just speculation on my part, but I reckon it'd be a fair chance.
You never know, policies can change. But anyway, my gut feel is it'll be a natural evolution from complication to simplicity. Like Port & Freo, they entered the league with jumpers that I would say had too much going on, and now both have much simpler, classier designs. GWS have already shifted...
I disagree. We're talking about sporting guernseys which are used to serve a practical function, not endevours which should have unlimited scope for artistic creativity. Make them too artsy, busy, multi coloured or inconsistant and their functionality is lost. Jumpers like that of Carl, Rich &...
Yep No dramas. I'll do alternates first. If someone said our royal blue alternate had to be impoved, i'd say they were spot on. It's farcical that they're allowed to get away with a strip so similar to their traditional. If someone said their alternate jumper with the red back was utter garbage...
I agree generally speaking. But for a club as small as GWS & with a preferred jumper as stupid as GWS, that's where I draw a line. This league is full of inconsistancies and this would have been way down the bottom of the list. Stupid jumper designs have to be punished at some point, and what...
I think the best possible solution was to have the Giants in the dark strip they wore against the Swans the week prior, and the Lions in the yellow. Would anyone have complained? Are a few GWS members seriously gonna email the league and complain?
A club like GWS that can't even go close to filling a 23.5k stadium for a final don't deserve any jumper choice rights. Especially when their preferred kit is rubbish.
This is where the league should've just said righto GWS you're in the all dark number you wore last week v Swans, Brissy you're...
