Scenario B is by far the more likely of the two scenarios. However, the two conditions you outline in each scenario (i.e. Allan performance and Rowell recontract) aren't linked. I think the most likely is that Allan has a solid year and cements himself in the 22 by years end (not necessarily...
I'm planning on being there on Friday, but the main questions I think I have would be:
Jordy, to your point. Is he in full training? And which group does he train with?
Perryman. Is he lining up with the backs or the mids?
Reef. I know he is training as a key back, but want to see for myself...
If Hayes will spend more time barking up at senior quality opposition players and trying to look tough rather than focussing on his own contributions to a team that really needs him to do his job, then yep, he could be our Konstas.
Yeah, I generally don't love it when I see Howe filling a key position in defense - it is a major weakness. He is so much better as a third man up / third tall than having to man a Curnow or McKay type for example. And it let's us go with a trick play of shifting him forward if needed as he is a...
That's the point I'm making. Just because the players when interviewed preseason about another teammate say that he is on fire and will be a star, doesn't mean he will be a star.
I'm not necessarily saying they have doubts about them, I'm saying that there is not necessarily a high correlation between what they say, and how effective that player becomes.
In recent years, each of Fin, Reef, and Johnson were all talked up, and each was probably in the conversation about...
I'm not sure a player's public statement about a teammate is really the best judge of whether someone will be a gun or not - they are obviously going to overstate the teammate's potential to the positive. We only need to look back over the years to see the players that talked up the likes of Ash...
Um, yeah, that's right. Or to say another way, 100% of this just comes down to who gets injured/suspended/in or out of form and for how many games.
That's what 76w is asking people to take a guess at.
Super fun exercise 76w - although I don't really understand your starting point though. My attempt below - it's actually harder than it looks.
Some principles for me:
I first of all picked 7 players I didn't think would get a game this year (based on the prior years of 37/38 players playing...
I also said that I didn't believe that the overall package that we would put together would likely stack up.
Be real for a minute Fat Jesus. If GC offered us Rowell for Allan and our 4th rounder, you are doing it.
No, I don't believe we will trade him as part of a package for Rowell, as I communicated clearly and several times. I don't think we will be able to trade for Rowell because we don't have the right assets we are willing to trade.
Interesting listening, and reinforced a couple of things on my mind.
1. No one really knows much about him.
2. No one really knows where he is going to fit in and how he is going to be a strong contributor.
Unusual profile for someone we are paying 900k p.a. to, but I'm hoping he can stamp...
First of all, I have not suggested trading Allan at all - you might want to go back and look at my posts before you pop off like this. What I was defending was people's rights to share a view on this forum of what Allan might be able to fetch on the trade market.
Secondly, I definitely don't...
You can absolutely. But this forum is in large part about making predictions and guesses about what might happen in the future, and the above scenario classifies.
You are welcome to not provide your opinion until 2025 has played out though.
Gold Coast say no to this one for sure. For two reasons - 1) because Rowell is worth far more to them than a future (uncertain number) first round and a couple of latter picks, especially since they don't really need draft picks anymore, they need to keep their developing core together as much...
You'd relucantly accept a trade where we lose Harrison and a future first round pick in 2026, for Rowell...? Um, yep, so would everyone. Well, except for Gold Coast, obviously...
Of course there is a point - it is a prediction, that's we do on this site. There would be much less content on this site if we stripped out all predictions.
So the point of the declaration is to register my prediction. If we successfully trade for him, then I'm wrong. If someone else trades...
No, last year we traded a best 22 player, a borderline best 22 player, a first round pick and a second round pick.
This year, we won't be able to trade a first round pick or a second round pick, won't have a player we are able to let go, and Rowell would command a higher trade price than Houston.
Yeah, it's an easy thing to say, but who? Give me an example of someone who we would be okay to trade away (noting that we are also close to a flag) that GC would want as compensation for losing one of the best young mids and the former number one draft pick? The likes of a De Goey or Cameron...
If Rowell was on the trade table, someone is going to offer 2x top 12 first round picks as a starting point. We don't have enough good mid aged players to upstage that, without being net negative to our competitiveness.
