This is the kind of thing a CEO or president could get away with 10 years ago, but the landscape has changed and I'm just not convinced it can be swept under the carpet and go away now.
Unfortunately for Sayers, his version of events is so unbelievable that he will need to provide some sort...
Completely out of boredom, I have compared our 2013 grand final side with our 2025 best 22 side. (barring injuries for the 2025 side, which will probably not be the case but for simplicity have chosen to do so). The comparisons are based on exactly how that player was in 2013 (not what they...
It's all going to come down to his performance this year. Play 22 games and finish in the top 5 in the Doig and he is worth a first rounder. Play 15 games and he's worth a second rounder. Play no games and he's worth a packet of Samboy chips.
Is he really though?
Consider these points:
No other team in the competition ties up big money for 2 x ruckman.
No team in the comp (sans Melbourne) have won a premiership in the last 10 years with a dominating and highly paid ruck.
Good and competitive rucks (Jordan Sweet, Lloyd Meek) can be...
Absolutely, but I'm sure the club would be creative enough to back-end deals to anyone coming in for the first few years to free up the space to pay the first few years of Darcy's salary.
If Geelong wanted him I'm sure they would hand over a first rounder (something like a pick 10) as (a) he's...
Yeah, but usually someone of decent quality leaves unexpectedly. We didn't see Shultz going and it got us a decent draft return, same with Brad Hill, Lachie Neale (which wasn't ideal) Griffin Logue, Adam Cerra and the list goes on. The last offseason is the first one in 4 or 5 years it hasn't...
Geelong are pretty keen on him. Have been for a while. If Freo threw in some cash for the first few years he'd be worth at least a first and change. You'd still have to pay him 800k a year I'd say.
Mate, Warner is out of contract. Of course he is worth more but unless they walk him to the draft for nothing (which never happens), they are shit out of luck. Kozzie I grant you will need more than a first and future second (especially with Tassie coming in which I didn't factor for).
So what’s your idea of a monumental offer for Kozzie?
A first and future first is not a small offer, and don’t get me wrong he’s a good player but he’s not Chris Judd
Well we ain’t trading Brayshaw because he’s a future captain of the club but I do see your point. We will need more than a first and future second for Kozzie with tassie coming in.
Yes, I do agree a good player will need to be traded out, but not Brayshaw (He’s a future captain of the club, and if you listen to his brother, is basically in the process of signing a new deal anyway).
A controversial view but there is argument that Draper will be better than Cox by the end of 2025. Then there is depth in OMac, Davies plus Ryan can play tall. Personally, I don’t think we lose too much by losing him.
If Pickett and Bolton are our small forwards then I am not even sure if...
Ok, let’s play this out
Warner we could get with 2026 first rounder and 2027 first. (He is out of contact after all).
Kozzie we could get from a 2026 first rounder and 2027 second rounder. I reckon we would get that if we traded Cox or Darcy.
If both players selected Freo we would move...
To have a shot at Kozzie and Warner I reckon we would have to:
- retire Fyfe, Sonny and Aish. (Probably going to happen anyway)
trade out Cox.
trade out Switta.
trade out Darcy.
If we were a ruthless club we would make the moves needed.
Imagine if the Dockers get Warner this offseason?
2026 midfield will be: Warner, Young, Brayshaw, Serong, with Darcy/Jacko the ruck combo. All under 26, and have won All Australians. That is full cheat code stuff.
Yeah, I dunno about that. Bradshaw, young and Serong will be on good money and then we will probably have to give significant pay increases to Treacy and Amiss. (This is not counting Bolton, Darcy and Jackson who are probably on 800k already).
pickett and Warner will both command good...
Some fairly strong midfield depth this year.
A roster: Bradshaw, serong, young.
B roster. Fyfe, Bolton, Johnson, JOM
C roster. Erasmus, Brodie, Switta, Aish, Simpson, banfield,
It’s going to be hard to get a crack. You can only really play 5 or 6 mids a game.
Hilly was getting tagged at a very young age. Maybe even his first or second year which was pretty crazy.
I think footy has changed quite a bit since he was in his prime in 2012-2015.
If anything, he probably would have had more space and been more damaging in today’s slingshot...
We should have space, both salary and draft capital, if we get rid of Sean Darcy. I reckon it will be tempting. Erasmus could also go if he doesn't crack the best 22 this year. (Admittedly not for much draft capital).
Walker Pearce Ryan
Clark Cox Chappy
Noddy Young Sharp
Freddy Treacy Bolton
Jackson Amiss Switta
Darcy Brayshaw Serong
Fyfe, Johnson, Sturt, Wagner.
Sub Erasmus.
- Quality all over the park.
Banners has had some decent form and probably deserved the length of his contract extension, but
there is no way Brodie should have got the length of extension that he did, and
there is no way we should have initially signed JOM for 4 years initially??? He had injury concerns and 2, or at max...
Would any of these guys get us any more than a future third? (At best).
The only guys I can think of that will get us some sort of capital would be Darcy (and maybe Noddy depending on his year) I reckon even Luke Ryan and Switta are too old to get us a first rounder.
Is it a bit morbid to think possible delistings/retirements already for the end of 2025?
Fyfe and Walters are the obvious ones, then
Aish,
Erasmus (50/50. Make or break year)
Worner
Jones
Deelan
Hopefully Omac and Narkle get a good crack at it this year.
Everybody wants to be the nice guy, but...
