Even if that was to be true, if a player is requesting to leave then "leadership potential" isn't at the forefront of any clubs mind. They're already asking to leave.
What's more likely to be a factor is where Port believe they are at as a club by the end of 2025.
If they challenge again, and...
They literally just traded Houston while contracted.
It's probably less than likely, unless he really makes things untenable, but to rule it out so quickly is disingenuous to the situation and the club we're dealing with.
The bigger question for me is whether Geelong commit to the heavy price...
If Geelong can't win it, you want to feel like nobody's won it. Easiest way is to just get an interstate side to win it.
Through no fault of their own passion, it's all a bit out of sight, out of mind for the rest of us.
Divvy it up from there I guess. Freo for their first flag, or Port for...
I don't think anyone really cares what he does either, or what any footballers do for that matter (obviously, within reason).
It's only IF that behaviour is affecting team harmony that it becomes an issue.
That's far more important than if he's a bit of a party boy for mine.
More posting with tongue firmly in cheek, it's a bit of an in-joke in our family at the moment.
My father (great Cats man that he is) has long held the belief that Bailey would be a distraction. Never wanted him, didn't see him as somebody who played the 'Geelong way' etc, more akin to what Daz...
Pretty hard to play good footy if everyone thinks you're a shit bloke though, at least in our game.
If time goes on and it's only a couple who don't get along then it's probably fine. Nature of footy clubs and all that.
If it escalates and it's reminiscent of Warwick at the bears then we're...
It's probably Clohesy. Jhye's grown his hair out a bit again, while Ted has kept the buzz cut.
To stick with your theme though, I thought this pic looked promising. He looks far more stoutly built than he did this time last year, particularly through the shoulders.
I mean this without trying to be a dick, but an estimate of about 3% of Geelong supporters would even know who Tom Brown is...and I imagine that number would be similar throughout other non-RFC supporter bases.
Best of luck to the kid of course, but you appear a tad unhinged when presenting it...
I don't necessarily disagree, and there certainly does need to be patience here...but Zak Butters was in the AA squad in just his second year.
He did take until year five to breakout into the superstar we see today, but he was a quality AFL footballer for a long period prior to that.
I rate...
Inserts David King voice
"But who is couscous, Gerard? Who is he really? What does he bring? Is he really a torch bearer of your footy club? Or are his stats just empty calories that won't hold up when it matters?"
In my defence, I woke up at 5pm. It's all about balance when maintaining excellence, but as a high draft pick my discipline could certainly improve.
What about you though? Do you need another 12-24 months developing your game in the lower leagues? Or can we finally expect a breakout year in...
It's not an issue unique to Clark IMO.
Guys like SDK, Henry, Neale, & Bruhn still get chastised from time to time despite proving they can actually perform at AFL level.
Atkins, Parfitt, Guthrie (x2), & Miers similarly in their early days, and who could forget the infamous Brad Close "shimmy"...
I'd say it's more concern than anything overly negative, with a big year coming up for him and a couple others.
Particularly with injury, it's fair to give him a mulligan for his first two years IMO, and some of the over the top negativity in that period has been unfair.
Like most players...
It's a big if, but if that is to be the case it's particularly concerning when it's a player of Clark's standing.
We knew he was never an athletic freak, overly tall, or lightning quick, but the one thing we all thought we could bank on was his work ethic, and as a result, his leadership.
Not...
That's all fair and well articulated, but again, I don't necessarily see Carlton as unique in that area.
Just using some of the finals contenders, all of these clubs would have a similar argument in terms of the importance of the improvement of their youngsters who are expected to play...
Newcombe is a gun. Would take him at Geelong in a heartbeat, and him vs Walsh is certainly a worthy debate.
With that being said, that's probably not the argument you want to be using when Walsh has won a Gary Ayres medal himself.
He's proven he can play high quality finals footy more than...
He's got a point. It's the same argument every supporter base will use at this time of year, there's not much substance to it.
Carlton's youngsters aren't awful by any means...but just about every club in the league would have a similar (or better) crop that they're pinning their hopes on to...
The practice games end up on Kayo, but you get such shonky camera work and commentary that it's hard to stay invested.
Could only deal with 15 minutes of Ed Curnow waxing lyrical about the Blues unprecedented run to losing a preliminary final last year. You'd think they'd just three-peated...
It's a long list, but I'm personally scarred by the Guthrie '23 scenario. Went from 'managed' as a late scratching to out for 17 weeks.
Part of me is expecting news of an amputation in the coming weeks for Tanner.
Appreciate the insight as always mate! As others have said, the Bruhn niggles are unfortunate to hear though.
The last couple of years have been more than adequate as a young player, but going into year 5 we really do need his endurance to build, even if it's only getting him to the 70-ish%...
As an older brother myself, that's all I took it as.
It's something that you can't really explain unless you've experienced it, but from the footy field to the pool table, the older brother tends to have the edge.
To everyone else you're just another footballer/average bloke....but in the...
