The point is not just to give these particular kids a day they will remember, but to give kids all over Australia even more of a connection to what's happening. That's what Auskick is about - growing the sport among the next generation. The AFL has a bigger idea in mind and the kids presenting...
It sucks that Freo were so nervous and played so poorly in the first half. I like to see the better team win and I'm not sure that happened. The better prepared team definitely won, Freo just wasn't ready to play in the first half.
Yeah, as an American who has become a huge footy fan over the last 4 years (since we've been getting multiple live games broadcast every weekend), I can assure you that there is no need for footy fans to have an inferiority complex.
The big US sports all have their ridiculous aspects. Hell...
My view is:
- Yes, Goodes' reaction to one young girl's comment seemed a bit too sensitive -saying that it ruined a great performance by him and the Swans.
But...
- It's also embarrassing for Adelaide crowds to react this strongly to it.
Goodes has been heavily booed during both games he's played in Adelaide since the racial abuse incident. He didn't get booed that way before the racial abuse thing happened and it's definitely not a case of Adelaide fans booing him just because he's an enemy player, the only other Swans player...
The same type of thing happens in footy matches when the team with an insurmountable lead just kicks to safe marks for the last minute or more to end the game.
All I'm advocating for in this thread is for players to know the time remaining so they can make smart choices when it's in their...
Yeah I don't understand how coaches can obviously agonize over so many mistakes players make during matches but turn a blind eye to this.
Do the stadium clocks only count up? I knew that it's a tradition, and the commentators often reference time that way.
I'm a Yank, so clock management has been ingrained in me from an early age. Getting the most out of the final minute(s) of quarters/halves is an integral part of basketball and US football, so players are expected to be very aware of time remaining. Thus the time main remaining clocks are always...
The Super Bowl has it's share of bad entertainment too. Madonna was horrible this year. Just because you pay more doesn't mean you are going to get a better show.
I laughed at that video saying AFL is the #1 "sporting code" in Australia. No one in the US ever thinks about putting the words "sporting" and "code" together. Just say it's the #1 sport in Australia. Just a small detail but it was at the beginning of the video. Still, I think it is a great...
Yeah that's the best option for those in the US, provided it's not georestricted now that the AFL has a new licensed US broadcaster. ESPN and the AFL couldn't come to terms on a deal so no footy on ESPN3 this year, it will be on television on the Fox Soccer Plus channel. It's a separate...
Obviously these teams' revenue is hurt because there are so many teams in the same metropolitan area. Most other leagues aren't like that. If Melbourne/Geelong had only one team it would be in the top 25 and with only two teams one would surely be in the top 50.
NFL Films was a a great tool for the NFL to gain exposure for the sport back in the late 1960s -early 1970s when the league experienced huge growth. You have to have the talent behind the camera to make it work though. NFL Films succeeded because Ed Sabol knew what he was doing. I think nowadays...
I agree and think footy matches could build an audience even tape delayed, because it's truly a great game to watch. Showing Friday night games on Saturday afternoon here in the US might be a good idea because the Friday night broadcasts have more of a feature match feel to them, they seem like...
Here in the US we've known about Aussie rules for a long time. The first broadcasts were on cable back in the mid 1980s. But for a long time all we got were highlight shows. Games were condensed to 30 minutes so it was one nice mark or goal after another. It was weird to finally see a full game...
The biggest surprise other than Hawkins was Collingwood with 57 at halftime. In the second half Geelong toughened up and played defense like they did in the first two matches against the Pies. That was the difference for them in all 3 games...the Pies just couldn't score. Really was a problem...
I don't see how Collingwood will score enough points to win. They'll have to hold Geelong well under 70 to have a chance and the odds of that happening aren't good.
