The only home & away individual award that players desperately want to win is the Brownlow. Regardless of whether you agree with the voting system, the simple reality is that every player would rather win a Brownlow than the MVP or coaches award.
I've little doubt that Bont would trade all his...
I really wish that we had traded high on this kid. I wanted to blow it up on the basis that I didn't think we were any reasonable chance of competing before Parish was at least 30. A year or two ago we probably could have squeezed two first rounders for him and now, with one of the league's...
If Essendon was a good team, Cox would be in the VFL.
I'm not sure we had a choice but to mold him into a defender. We have a range of established or emerging tall forwards - and Cox hadn't shown enough to really displace anyone in the pecking order - and we lacked tall defensive depth. It was...
Parish playing: 7 wins / 10 losses / 88%
Parish not playing: 4 wins / 1 loss / 114%
In games where Parish plays we finished 6W-2D-9L in clearances and when he wasn't in the team we finished 2W-2D-1L.
Whatever value that Parish provides directly, it seems as though we have successfully covered...
I cannot say I'm particularly high on Nik right now. I'm not sure what he is and I don't think the coaching staff knows that either. However, he is a big kid and they can take longer to develop.
But I also cannot get too frustrated by it because that draft class is probably the worst class in...
I wish him all the best but I cannot imagine him ever developing a sufficient fitness level to be a genuinely good player. Even when his fitness gets reasonable he's always just an injury away from being back at square one. And he gets injured a fair bit.
Averaged 19.3 touches per game last season - adjusted for sub impacted games - but was certainly squeezed out of the midfield rotation by other players. Best season was clearly 2020 when he played more of an inside role.
With Essendon having one of the smallest - and quite frankly mediocre -...
I'd hope that we'd be in Dunkley's ear letting him know that if the Brisbane thing doesn't work out we'd happily pay him a seven figure contract next year and take him in the national draft. He could put a $1.2m price on his head and we'd be in the box seat given our cap space.
If Bowes seriously wants to play for Essendon - given what an absolute shitshow we currently are - I'd have big concerns about trading for him. Clearly wouldn't be in the right headspace.
This was such a massive **** up that the President's role would be untenable if he himself hadn't been in the role for five minutes.
The ability of this club to make absolutely stupid decisions is surely unmatched.
It's a hell of a career and he leaves an incredible legacy of excellence at Geelong.
There have been better players but few if any would be as satisfied with their career as Joel Selwood. The guy just won and won and won for sixteen seasons.
We always look better on paper than we do in reality and I think that primarily reflects poor list management. It's never enough to just identify talent - good list management requires you to identify talent plus fit. Teams that regularly achieve that - I think Geelong and Richmond are good...
There is a fair bit of delusion in that list assessment!
Some A's that should be B's. Some B's that should be C's. Some C's that should be under a new D category. And some Rising Stars that still need a lot more time to show they deserve to be on an AFL list going forward.
Overall, I think...
If Taranto was considering us then that'd be a big red flag. I certainly wouldn't want anyone that looked at Essendon right now and thought "yep, that's the environment for me" :D
Had a few small runs of good form but rarely looked fit enough or skilled enough to become anything close to justifying a high first round pick. It's the type of pick that really kills a developing team. It's not often you get two top 10 picks and to completely waste one is just devastating.
Individual draft picks are irrelevant to assessing Dodoro's performance. List management is vastly more complex and there is, to date, no evidence that Dodoro is capable of doing that well. He accumulates talent without consideration of fit or synergies or team needs.
Plenty of well regarded...
