Absolute irrefutable evidence that the Trade period is too f***ing long.
Yeah Ivan - we want you. Can you pop in next Wednesday morning before the trade period ends and do a few run throughs and we'll give Port a call and sort out a late pick trade.
Nah don't leave straight after - just hang...
No way we could have done that - GWS had 11 of the first 14 picks in 2011.
As it was - we did exceptionally well in 2011 getting Seb Ross @ 25 Jack Newnes @ 37 and Jimmy Webster @ Pick 42
Here's mine.
Trade Radio - 3 days talking mostly about deals that will never ever ever eventuate.
Big Footy - 200 pages talking mostly about deals that will never ever ever eventuate.
Dunno about that - only one day in and we've already added Pick 9 to our draft choices. Another few days of this and we'll have the entire Top 10 picks.
And this shite goes on till tomorrow week - fmd!!!
Amazing how players are told to "explore their options" then the next minute the clubs telling everyone - oh no they're contracted important players and very much required by the club.
FFS how long does this s*** go on for?
I think they have added another 2 years to his existing contract and then added a trigger clause for another 4.
As long as the trigger clause is not too generous in Max's favour it shouldn't be too much of a burden for the club. Lets say something around 55 games over the next 4 years.
Surprised to see that we apparently have no interest in Tomlinson and Sam Frost has signed on for another year.
So who do people think we will be targeting as a cheap 3rd defender?
Sorry Joffa but I don't agree.
Getting Pick 8 for a third tall defender no matter how well he has performed is exactly the sort of thing we have to do to improve our list overall.
The money we've saved can be spent on Macrae, pick 8 gets us access to a quality mid and I don't really care what...
Agree its a win/win for us and the Hawks but the biggest winner is Battle.
Got another $100K a year on his contract simply because was a free agent.
No wonder players are managing their contracts to coincide with free agency provisions.
Wow I'm stunned - Band 1 compo for Battle - who'd have thought that would happen - knock me down with a feather.
Great to see Tom Campbell has been picked up by Melbourne - great clubman and certainly not the worst ruck to have sitting in the two's while some younger prospects develop.
Now all...
Here's the whole sorry tale of what might have been. We stuffed up some things but the Hawks were handed some things on a platter.
If its paywalled - let me know I'll paste the whole article. Its a great article and is well worth a read...
Yep - 12 points for 25 yo (Harry Perryman), 10 points for 26 yo (Josh Battle), 8 for 27 yo etc etc and no extra points for players above 30.
I see Perryman has nominated Collingwood (let me guess - "I'm going because it gives me the chance to play marquee games in front of big crowds at the...
That's correct. Otherwise it becomes too easy to manipulate.
So Battles average guaranteed wage over the guaranteed length of his contract will be compared against everyone else's wage in 2025.
His will be something like $875k per year.
That will easily place him in the top 10% of all...
The other thing(s) about this is that
1 - Pity the media don't recognise who led the charge in getting these changes up. Bassat has been all over this from the start of the year all the way up to when the AFL announced the changes in August.
2 - the discount for F/S has now been cut from 20%...
Nah the F/S is too much of a lottery. Its pure luck that can result in clubs winning premierships. Distorts the draft and needs to be fixed.
For example Collingwood had three AA F/S in their premiership team last year.
St Kilda has had 3 F/S selections since F/S started in 1986.
So apparently the reason why the draft for a largest professional sport in Australia is totally compromised is because St Kilda hasn't been successful.
And here I was thinking it was compromised by a F/S rule that relies entirely on luck and an academy system that is specifically designed to...
Happily take two teens picks for Pick 8 but I always fall back on a bit of advice my granny gave me
"Sonny - spit in one hand, wish in the other and see which one gets full first."
Well its a great plan then.
I think I said at the start of the year that I very much doubted we'd get Band 1 compo for Battle - but that was based on believing no one would cough up the level of contract needed for Band 1 for a 3rd tall defender like Battle.
Celebrate the fact that Hawks have...
I reckon Longmire would have given 5 votes to C Fagan.
Totally outcoached.
Shut down the Swans time and space in the midfield and that put pressure onto the delivery into the fwd 50 which showed up their talls.
No idea why they went with a half done McDonald.
Big shout out to Darcy Fort -...
Same thing happened to me.
I probably would have accepted a recognition medal of some sort from the club but when it came to re-unions etc - you never really felt part of the premiership "team".
