I think they have added another 2 years to his existing contract and then added a trigger clause for another 4. As long as the trigger clause is not too generous in Max's favour it shouldn't be too much of a burden for the club. Lets say something around 55 games over the next 4 years.

Agree its a win/win for us and the Hawks but the biggest winner is Battle. Got another $100K a year on his contract simply because was a free agent. No wonder players are managing their contracts to coincide with free agency provisions.

Nah the F/S is too much of a lottery. Its pure luck that can result in clubs winning premierships. Distorts the draft and needs to be fixed. For example Collingwood had three AA F/S in their premiership team last year. St Kilda has had 3 F/S selections since F/S started in 1986.
