Would you prefer to play with 30 of your school mates or 3 blokes you met at uni?
Another reason that some people would prefer to play at this level is that they are only playing for the fun of it. Not having to train at least two nights a week from December or early in the year until the end...
I daresay that the the players that make up the additional Thirds/under 19s team from the likes of SKOB, Bernards and OX that would feature in this Under 23s comp would rather play with their friends than to go play reserves/seniors at another smaller local club in the lower divisions.
Always find it laughable that those from outside clubs automatically assume that most A grade VAFA clubs could somehow afford to pay players. The Schulz fiasco from last year was just embarrassing.
Even more laughable to assume that any school would help any old boys club to this extent...
Interesting results in the Premier Thirds section this weekend. There is an unprecedented top 6 finals system this year with the top two (both Old Xavs teams) receiving a first week finals bye instead of the usual double chance. Both OX sides have been beaten in the prelims with the grand final...
Is it not unreasonable to think Collegians people are just as outraged at what their own fan said last year as they are with what the Skob player did on the weekend? Is it not outrageous to think Skob people that were unhappy about what the Collegians fan said last year, are just as unhappy with...
Hunt receives more than expected, not necessarily wrong but definitely at the high end of the range. You'd also expect SKOB to make their player sit out the rest of the year as well.
Always brings a smile to my face seeing certain posters complaining about aliases, pot kettle and all that.
What an extremely odd take. Don't let your issues with "Skob money" (whatever that means) come into play here. It was very poor by that player if true. Would like to think he will receive some sort of punishment from the league or club. It can't be tolerated, being heat of the moment and a young...
In the first year I played we just used the standard stats and shelved that pretty quickly. I agree on the free kicks, It's no fun cheering for your players to get a free kick instead of doing something with the ball.
Score (2), Kicks, Handballs, Marks, Tackles, Hitouts, Rebounds, Clearances and Spoils (2). These are my favourite categories that we have used so far, find it is a good balance for all positions.
Have previously done Score (2), Kicks, Handballs, Marks, Tackles, Hitouts, Contested Possessions...
Important thread. There is such an opportunity for a dedicated platform to take on the draft and categories way of playing and do it right. Surely there is an opportunity there.
My understanding is that a SKOB player marked and kicked a goal to put them 1 point behind and it looked like the marking player pushed his OM's opponent in the back before he took the grab. An OM's player then called an umpire a cheat. He was promptly sent off and SKOB were awarded another...
It's the best of a bad situation. Both teams as well as one of the SKOB teams would be way too good to play thirds at a lower division. All 3 of these teams have players that have played seniors at one stage or another and still have players who might be capable, especially at a lower division...
Very fair assessment of the day's play. I honestly don't understand how anyone could defend the hit on Johnston, the penalty was fair and definitely not a miscalculation. Just a shame that a second red card was shown later in the game.
