When I entered this thread I did not anticipate discussion about whether you need a superstar on your list to win a premiership or not.
Arthur Day-Wicks must be having one of the all time greatest ever pre-seasons to be inciting this kind of discussion. Lid-off!
He is 100% not a tagger.
He doesn’t have a big run all day tank.
He’s not a contested body on body beast at the stoppage.
Instead, he’s the quickest to respond at the stoppage and is great at getting our team first possession-meters gained out of a stoppage.
Just put him in the guts, and we...
All eyes on the 3-4 year players stepping up this pre-season. Which of the following do you have confidence will be good-very good AFL players?:
Cox, Perkins, Hobbs, Davey, Reid, Jones and Tsatas?
They all might be good-very good… they all might be average - not at the standard.
Big big big...
Worth a crack this late based on his late draft age and his leadership traits. That’s a good combo to build from, his composure looks like it could be an area to improve based on the footage. But looks worth the punt. Good luck lad!
Like the look of him. Like that he’s got good skills, and is a good runner so he can really put time into the gym without having to worry about other deficiencies. Confident.
Yeah and i like the idea of really looking internally next season and assessing whether Perkins, Cox, Reid, Jones, Hobbs and Tsatas will make it and then making draft choices next years draft with the f1 picks based on how they develop. Ie, if Reid, Jones and Cox all stagnate - we’ll fine, more...
The quality of Cal and Riley’s show is honestly so much better then the fox one or whatever the Ablett/Sheehan one was. Cal and Riley legit know their sh!t, I honestly have no idea how Ablett got his gig. Trainwreck.
We don’t need more KPP players. This draft shows that what is most important is having a fleet of hard running skillful medium/smalls. Look at what GWS have done, litterally year after year picking the eyes out of the best smalls who can play up the ground.
The talls are sliding for a reason...
stay there. I’m lazy and watching whatever was on kayo. Ablett literally compares players to every AFL player that plays the same position.
And Shifter just loves saying “this is a boy who…” over and over
Ablett just showed how clueless he is. Litterally said we should have kept pick 9, and if a big came early for Kako “so be it”…. Ie we would just lose Kako and not get a f1.
What a d!ckhead.
Spot on. I posted more or less this at the end of the season. Not the right time to be trading in gun players, rather hit the draft and assess what we have at our disposal.
Need to be confident Reid, Cox, Hayes, Jones are AFL players before we go anywhere near another kpp.
Also a big year for...
Can someone explain to me what the expected plan is for us with pick 28? Just listened to Twomey this morning say we will be looking to trade it out before a bid on Kako so it doesn’t get eaten up, what does that look like? Is that - trade it for someone’s F2 and then use that to try and get...
Agree with you on this. Half forward is his go and there is a spot for him.
He actually has a pretty good tank surprisingly, or at least he did when drafted from memory.
I would say Cox is every bit as maligned as Perkins. Huge pre season for both of them. It’s time they both play with consistency - saying they’re young won’t fly next season.
All the top talents have question marks:
FOS - form dropped away, can go missing in games/not high possession enough - but was injured
Smith - slight frame, like butters but will he be able to handle the contested stuff?
Lalor- big boy, how much of a liability is he on the outside?
I’m saying as an overall list approach, we have neglected aerobic runners. Whether that be first, second or third round. We’ve missed the boat. If you have a list that can comfortable runout a game, then your petraccas/camerons/dangerfields can focus on what they do best-impact the game. It’s a...
He had back to back years of injury in year one and his draft year. He’s now looking at back to back pre seasons and looked a way better athlete at the end of this season than last. His style of play is dependent on him leveraging his physical tools - not unlike Shiel.
Hopefully he gets a full...
I said the exact same thing with two weeks left to go in the VFL season. He was dodging kicking a bit in midfield, but his kicking did improve.
In hindsight I’m glad they kept him in the midfield, he ended the year on a high as probably the most prolific mid in the VFL - reminded everyone why...
