Time to scrap all Vic clubs and create 3-4 mega Vic franchises

There are some obvious senior/junior and geographical pairs that would make most sense for mergers. Carlton/North: new name North Melbourne Blues. New strip is same as Carlton but in Royal Blue. Keep the CCF monogram. Richmond/Melbourne: new name Melbourne Tigers. New strip is the Melbourne...

Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

Yep sounds like it would appeal to footy nerds who know every player on their teams list. Most people couldn't care less. Don't get me wrong there is still a reasonable number of those but not enough to justify a prime time tv slot (even with how desperate for content tv is these days)

Let's be real, no one bar the footy tragics of bigfooty would be interested in an u18's rep game.

Merge Hawks and Saints, they can have all of SE Melbourne. Rebrand as the Monash Hawks and have a brown gold and red tri-panel jumper.

    Jumper clash fails

Even with the red shorts it's still too white on the front for my taste. The away one is much better.

    Jumper clash fails

Yes this is how GWS should do it! None of this different colour from front to back nonsense. Sydney need to do the same.

    The 1986 Beer Wars

I flicked on the state of origin the other night an saw NSW with a tooheys logo, QLD with a XXXX logo and a massive VB logo painted on the ground. Managed to get all 3 big brands into the same game.

    Jumper clash fails

God I hate opposite colours from front and back of a jumper like that first one. Unfortunately Sydney and Giants do it for thier standard home jumper. Port with the number panel is even worse.

Richmond have to host a 'home' game at Marvel Stadium this weekend, and wow are they are unhappy about it.

I think all the Melbourne based clubs should have to do what Carlton does and split fairly evenly home games between the two stadiums. Only the Demonds can really claim to having the MCG as their traditional home ground (and even then they have moved around). Obviously all the blockbusters...

    Jumper clash fails

Number panel is not fine, makes it harder than it needs to be.

    Jumper clash fails

This swans away jumper just shows how much better it is when the (majority of) front and the back match. Swans should have this as thier home jumper. Could wear red shorts if at home (but be pragmatic if playing a team with lots of red). They could even invert these colours if they wanted...

    Jumper clash fails

What if Freo and Carlton wore thier normal gear against each other (with just white shorts to tell the teams apart)!

Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

I assume they would. Tailgating wouldn't work if the games were played at Manuka, the parking is atrocious. Tailgating works if you've got a stadium in the middle of nowhere with a massive parking lot and nothing better to do. I'd prefer to keep it central with less parking, lots of public...

Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

Perth could support 3 teams if they all started at once but probably wouldn't get off the ground they way things are now. I think Canberra could support a team eventually but would need a bit more population growth (say 10 years at current rates). I've lived there for 10 years and it's not...

    AFL Canberra 2020

They like to chop and change a lot at aflcanberra (and never let us kniw what's going on until the last minute) but I'd think they will stick with what we had this year (i.e. Regional split across Div 3 & 4). We didn't get a good look at how it would work with covid interpreting the season but...

    AFL Canberra 2020

    1) Yep that's right. 2)similar set up to Div 1 and 2 but some clubs only have one team which plays in either division. Some clubs have two teams one in each Div 3&4 (same set up as Div 1&2). Some of the clubs from Div 1&2 have enough for one or two extra teams in Div 3 and/or 4. 3) Div 1 most...

Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

Except that it is the same competition. Rules have changed, teams have come and gone, the name has even changed, but it is still the same competition that started in 1896.

Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

Don't disagree that old flags don't mean too much in the scheme of things but the reason VFL flags are counted is because we are all still in that same competition.

They're not really getting pulled because they kicked the goal though. That player was always going to come off after the next goal, it's just coincidence if they kicked it.

VFL to merge with NEAFL, under-18 comps revamped in massive changes to AFL’s second tier

Anyone care to speculate how they will structure the draw? Here is what I'd do to minimise travel but also give some semblance of competition. Split the teams into four groups: Northern group - QLD and NSW (6 teams) VFA group - the stand alone VIC (6 teams) VFL1 group - half the AFL/VIC (5...

    Jumper clash fails

I really wish they would. Is it a Carlton decision for these games or does the AFL want the "traditional" matchups to remain?
  23. H

    Jumper clash fails

I mean there is a finite number of possible scenarios (306 by my count) surely the AFL can go through each possible kit combination and come up with something that works for each one. The first thing to consider is the home team wears thier primary jumper, then work everything else out from there.

Opinion If you could, would you reward the side who finishes top of the ladder as the grand final host?

Nah top doesn't mean as much with the uneven fixture. Regular season is for sorting out finalist and first week seedings then it should go out the window.

    Expansion Alternate AFL World 1987

Yeah I don't disagree with you there. I was confusing your "state of the game is in trouble" to mean the "look" of the game was the problem. Although I think rule changes to protect the players from certain injuries are necessary.

    Expansion Alternate AFL World 1987

I don't disagree that they have failed miserably but anything they do will be picked apart by coaches to get the W. If you think just putting the rules back to what they were will make a lick of difference you'll be very disappointed. EDIT: apart from having a bunch more concussions that is.

    Expansion Alternate AFL World 1987

The game has been evolving since day dot. Remember when they introduced the centre square, how about when they stopped playing 32 a side on a park a 1 km long? (a bit of hyperbole there) You make it sound like the governing body is some evil entity plotting away saying "you know what we need...

    How bad is Essendon? Jeeeeeez

I didn't read your whole post but the first bit got me wondering about teams employing a decoy coach (maybe not possible now due to finances). Some older statesman type who gives a motivational talk at the end of each huddle for the cameras, does the pressers post game and takes the heat, is...

Opinion If you could, would you reward the side who finishes top of the ladder as the grand final host?

With the fixture the way it is who is to say the top team is necessarily the best anyway (might have had a much easier draw than 2nd). Here's a wacky idea that keeps the GF at the MCG but mitigates a bit of the unfairness. No home grounds during finals. both Elimination finals are played in...

Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

Maybe the late season shenanigans and the double up games problem could both be solved by going back to the draw where you play every team once in the first 17 rounds, then play double ups, and then bonus points are only on offer for the first 17 rounds. Keeps teams trying to kick big scores in...
