Glad everyone is enjoying the game so far.
Player ratings absolutely matter for the overall result, I think there was some confusion on the discord because the player's overall skill is not used in the simulation of match results, it's just a weighted average based on the player's attributes...
Mac ports are a complete pain to do, and I no longer have the Mac I had set up the workflow on which made pushing Mac patches relatively simple. Hoping one can be done for the 2021 version in the next few months, have a couple possible solutions lined up. The 2021 lists are available for Mac...
Well, there will be a 2021 game update - include lists for the new year and several new feature updates (better player decision making in the match simulation, sound, team statistics, additional player statistics, new awards screen, completely reworked regens which fixes list management/veteran...
In the GameMedia/Data folder, the names files are First.csv and Last.csv - Last.csv is just a list of names, but the first column in First.csv is gender (0=male, 1=female) separated by a tab.
If you're looking to make custom draft lists, create a file called DraftPicks.csv and place it in your...
Haven't quite finished the manual yet but the Training section is complete, I've copied and pasted it below.
In terms of accuracy, the players in the game are probably a little bit too smart in terms of knowing where to kick from (think St Kilda this year) and will look to get a better shot...
I think the game might benefit from one as the field isn't large enough and it would be nice to see if you have players downfield to kick to, there were multiple times in the pre-alpha gameplay where you made blind kicks down the field.
The other thing that's hard for me to figure out from the...
This looks neat, good luck with development!
From a marketing point of view, please consider adding keyboard support. I don't have a controller at the moment, and while I'll probably still pick up the game to support indie footy game development, it'd be nice to be able to play it.
That's really odd. So if you change a team's colours and their design from stripes to hoops, at the end of the year the original design will be back? Or will you change the team's colours but not the logo design? Or does it wipe a previously loaded image?
The only code which gets run when the...
So sorry, I still haven't figured out how to sort that one! I've just tried to fix it again but I'm not sure if it'll work. The current workaround: right click on the game's name, go to Properties, open the tab "Local Files," click "Browse Local Files" then click on AFC2019 and it should load...
We're live on Mac! I can't guarantee it'll work properly but everything ran exceptionally smoothly on an old Mac laptop and I've had some experience with Mac working seamlessly on the old version so decided to go ahead and release. If you buy please let me know if you have any problems.
I think you're talking about my game, Australian Football Coach, which is different - the game is from 2017 but everyone who purchased got a free copy of Australian Football Coach 2020 upon its release in March, but to do this Steam had to update the game's date from 2017 to 2020.
I'd have to take a look at the bank. It's possible there's a workaround (used to play around with ROM editing) but you've done good work. Interested to see what else you come up with.
Very neat.
If you only get X digits for specific team names, that means there's almost certainly a memory bank somewhere storing the lengths of each team name. Still you only have 40 available bytes for 53 possible characters, but that should give you an extra 10 characters to play with for all...
In the business world, $14m is peanuts.
AFLW gets as good or better TV ratings than the A-League, and soccer has by my calculations around a $49m/year television package. I'm sure that includes Socceroos etc and that will probably go down when it expires in 2023. AFLW currently has a modest...
The biggest issue on my end is I need to find a Mac to compile the game on. I know the game will compile - it's developed on Linux (would release for Linux too, but there's a bug that's not in the game's code, but in the code that the game imports for specific things, that crashes the game...
Developer here.
1) Buy the 2020 version. The non-2020 version was only "released" this week because Steam gifted 2020 to everyone who had the original, but in order to do that it had to assign both the original and 2020 to Package 1, so then had to create Package 2 that features just the...
You mean at the same time? Probably, it's been set up to allow for this, but haven't added in any human interaction yet. The current version does allow you to resign/get rehired, but not control multiple teams simultaneously.
Well, the new version is still a ways off, and there may be enough polishing to do where there's a small paid contract. I appreciate the offer, though - you certainly were helpful with the fonts!
Hopefully will have a 2018 database update with the current version out within the next couple weeks or so. Also working on a completely new version of the game with a completely redone GUI.
Unfortunately like most AFL games this one won't make that much money even with all the polish in the...
I had a play with a couple commercial rights-free fonts including one from the FF Din family and I agree, they do look a bit better. I won't be making any changes at the moment though because the value of the current typeface is it's incredibly condensed, and there are a couple areas in the game...
I'll have a closer look. The reserves code is horribly complex, so it's likely something is mis-firing somewhere.
If it's just the news item that has been fixed, though. Last version it listed every player on your team that played on a the
day the reserves played, not just the reserves
Star=in team
Arrows=interchange
Exclamation point=not match fit
Zzz=tired
The graduated blue indicates overall skill.
Will look into the rookies thing, they're not meant to appear if not elevated and thought I had fixed that. Thanks!
That'd be fantastic. Feedback has really helped push the game along even since going up on Steam, so even if you don't like it or something about it, I can probably fix it.
I'll send you a message off this thread about this soon - probably late next week, need to make sure the game's stable first.
The versions are exactly the same - but I'm pushing people toward Steam since updates come automatically, and you get trading cards/achievements/cloud saves, but the...
That looks great. Unfortunately I can only ship generic jumpers with the game. I'll see what I can do in terms of getting the game set up with better graphics. It's behind solving some crash issues users have been having, though.
