News Gabba Upgrade & Olympics News

Why more so there than at the current site? It would have exactly the same amount of use. You knock down the current Gabba after the Olympics, build residential there, and avoid having to find some temporary fix for 4 years. If you’re committed to build a brand new stadium from scratch, why not...

Exactly. How much would it cost to build the same quality stadium on a massive site at Albion Park? Certainly a whole lot less. Then you could knock down the gabba in 32

News Gabba Upgrade & Olympics News

What's the difference though? Either way you are going to tear down one stadium and build a new one - the only difference is the location. If the Albion site were to go ahead, the gabba would almost certainly be knocked down after 2032 and the land sold right? If Albion has - bigger site =...

Review Semi Final, 2021 - Brisbane Lions vs. Western Bulldogs [Moratorium on negative opposition posting]

We played poorly, but I don't think I've ever seen a team deserve to win a final less than the pitbulls last night. Had the umps all night, one extra on the bench, 3 of their goals were floaters from the pocket and they won by a rushed behind

    2021 AFL Finals Umpiring

Can someone explain to me why blocking is outlawed? shepherding within reasonable distance to the ball has always been allowed, and there’s nothing unfair about both teams being allowed to block. To my eye, allowing it in marking & ruck contests would lead to more marks, more scoring and...

Umpiring The State of Umpiring in the AFL

The whole sport needs a rethink. It’s not rational to be stopping the entire flowing game, pulling everybody up, confusing everyone in the crowd and everyone watching at home, and handing the ball to one player to have a free go at it, 50 times per game. If you want any new fans to the sport at...

Autopsy AFL 2021 First Semi Final - Lions v Bulldogs Sat September 4th 7:20 EST (Gabba)

Who wants to watch a sport where the umpire has to stop play, tell the players they’ve done something wrong, and give someone a free go… 47 times!?

Preview Semi Final v Bulldogs @ The Gabba, Saturday 4th September 2021, 7.20pm.

A bit puzzled with the Payne selection. With Gardiner/Adams/Andrews you don't need Payne as well, Lester would be a better option. And if they are planning to swing one forward, Lester is probably the best option out of all of them. Not really sure why we're playing 10-game kids in knockout...

Game Day Finals Week 1 - Melbourne v Brisbane, 7:30 PM, Adelaide Oval

Congrats, you’ve comprehensively outplayed us and you’re a way better team, but you’ve just kicked a goal from the most disgusting umpiring decision I’ve seen in 49 years of footy. You’re now no longer allowed to go back with the flight. **** you Razor

Review Round 21, 2021 - Fremantle vs. Brisbane Lions

I thought he mentioned that Gardiner was about 2 weeks away. I think we'll have them both available for selection for the elim, whether or not we see them before that.

    New Brisbane Stadium (2032 Olympics)

Sure, Kardinia is ridiculously narrow, but I'd reckon it'd have to be longer and narrower than what you'd bet, for a few reasons. Firstly, it's already hanging 7 or 8m over Stanley St with the stand at only 41 rows on that side (there are 7 less rows in the bottom tier to allow for a concourse)...

    New Brisbane Stadium (2032 Olympics)

I think if they knocked the place down and rebuilt it, they would just make the ground much narrower. An athletics track doesn't need much more than 125m width fence to fence, while the current ground is almost 150m wide fence to fence. Could end up with a long narrow Kardinia Pk shaped ground.

    Preview Round 14, 2021 | North Melbourne vs Brisbane @ Blundstone Arena | Saturday, 19 June @ 16:35

North have some pretty decent talent and experience for a team sitting on the bottom. McDonald, Ziebell, Dumont, Cunnington, Simpkin, Stephenson, Zurhaar, Goldstein, Davies-Uniacke, Thomas, Tarrant Some pretty big names there. I've probably missed a couple of younger kids who are flying under...

News Gabba Upgrade & Olympics News

Mentioned on the cricket.com.au article that construction might not start until the end of 2029. So that would mean three seasons, 2030, 31 and obviously 32 playing out of Metricon, maybe some games against the smaller teams at Springfield? Would certainly be interesting.

    Best seats at the Gabba?

Honestly think first couple of rows of the upper tier, around section 70-71 are the best seats in the house, other than perhaps the corporate boxes directly below. Interchange boundary side is a must, slightly closer to the Lions end. up high enough to see the whole play, and still very close to...

Game Day Round 3, 2021 - Collingwood vs. Brisbane Lions

Will be run over the top of by a faster, more experienced side tonight. Desperately need McInerney, Gardiner, Berry, Cockatoo and Answerth in the team ASAP. And guys like Coleman/Prior/Sharp aren’t ready yet but at least they provide a bit of pace. Having 1 of them wouldn’t hurt. 5 players with...

Can an independent commission investigate the AFL for blatant cheating?

The question is, who wants to watch a sport that seems to be about 80% umpiring and 20% footballing. The best way to improve umpiring is to drastically simplify and streamline the rules. Better training/recruiting/talent filtering can only get so far.

Meltdown Congratulations Joel Selwood on achieving 800 career Frees For

I think, if you did interpret it as cheating, which a lot of people do, you could mount a genuine argument that he’s the biggest cheat in the history of the sport. If you were to add up the sheer number of times his ducking has paid off for him + Geelong, who else is in that league?

    Joel Selwood Appreciation Thread

Dude, when you add up the consistency of how often his ducking pays off for him + his team, and how often he’s gotten away with it over such a long period of time, he’s arguably the biggest cheat in the history of the sport.
