Exactly. That's 9 very good players to build around. I reckon we have some decent 2nd tier players too. But we desperately need one, maybe 2, elite ball winning mids to take the lead. We probably need to draft them and hope they have immediate impact

For me they're not mutually exclusive. You can gift a few games to see what they've got at the level without necessarily throwing the baby out with the bathwater

I actually think we are exactly in the position to gift games. We all know many of our players simply aren't up to being the top dog in the midfield. We have a few who would be decent 3rd or 4th string mids. They'll never be more than that. That's ok as long as they have that leader around them...
