100% agree. It’s why Jackson isn’t really a number 1 ruck. Darcy does have to work on his fitness though. No AFL player should have a gut like he does. You can be big and strong (meek) and not fat (Darcy)
A bit chicken egg though isn't it. Carrying the extra weight has an impact on his knee and when his knee is sore, he puts on weight. If you believe Darcy has ever been truly fit, then I think we have different standards of fitness. The only ruck in recent memory who has had Darcy levels of gut...
I think Port is a little bit like us in fact that they lack hardness (with the exception of JHF and Bergman). We have Treacy and that's about it. Butters and Rozee are both silk. Put pressure on them and hit them hard and they both want to come off the ground.
Don’t forget the $$$$$ they get to sign and the long term security.
Wish we had a few more mongrels in the team to bring the biff.
I honestly think we need to work on being a team that brings the physical pressure and outs gear into the opposition.
Don’t think a single port player needs an...
His biggest issue (apart from not being a rucks a’hole) is he isn’t a reliable mark down the line. Has youth on his side but I would say it’s a mid role or bust
The bridge was roaring on the way to the game. Spirits were high. Only to be kicked right in the balls. I miss the days when we had some mongrel. Do we have an enforcer on our list? We are a pretty soft team and can’t see that part of our game lifting
The issue with Jackson is he isn’t really a ruck. Jumps far too early and is then off balance to have an impact in the middle. Really wish we had Meek as depth but we traded him for JOM. Meek has been a huge reason for Hawks climb this year
Need a big body ruck to cover for Darcy when injured for half of the season. Has anyone seen much of that Meek guy at the hawks. Maybe a straight swap for JOM?
There’s this guy called Brodie who is only 25 and had a breakout season about 2 years ago. Was told to work on his defensive game. He will never be as good as Fyfe of old but can more than cover him for old Fyfe
